Welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotion of all People’s church, we are so glad that you could be part of today’s devotion and as usual, we are focusing on one theme and we are looking at the bible’s instruction on seek and pursue. There are many places in the bible where we are asked to seek and pursue something and the reason is this because these instructions come with a promise, a favorable, good outcome or even a blessing. Let’s look at one today which is from psalm chapter 34, verse 14 which says, ‘Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.’ Turn away, run away, turn aside, be without or even withdraw from anything that is morally wrong, depraved or worthless or something that causes harm and misery. The bible instructs very clearly, depart from evil and instead do good, the opposite of that. Let that be your action and behavior. So, depart from evil and do good. Look at the second part of it, it says ‘seek peace and pursue it.’ The word seek means to strive after, to go after, to procure, to request or even to require. So, the bible says seek peace. The word ‘shalom’ is used there which means not just merely peace or absence of conflict or war but it is a wholesome word which means health, prosperity, well-being, good will and harmony. The bible says pursue it, seek peace, chase it and follow after it with the intent of receiving it. The bible says that the Lord Jesus, one of the titles is that He is the prince of peace which means He is the author of this shalom. So, in seeking after or going after the shalom, the bible instructs us to go after the source or the one who is the prince of shalom from whom shalom proceeds. We are asked to go after and seek after this deep sense of peace and completeness. This is something that comes from God’s presence. It is not something that comes isolated or separated from the person of the Lord Jesus. When we are asked to seek peace and to go after it and pursue it, what the bible instructs is to seek after this prince of peace, to go after this author of peace and not just what comes from His presence or what He gives from His hand but to seek the person Himself. John chapter 14, verse 27, Jesus says, ‘Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’ The Lord Jesus is saying, the kind of peace that I have, I give to you so let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid. So, today, we have this instruction to seek peace and pursue it. So, today, we are reminded to seek peace in all our life situations and pursue it. Shall we pray, Father, we thank you for this instruction and command to seek peace and to pursue it. We thank you that you have also exhorted us to avoid and depart from evil and to do good. In all that we do today, we pray that we will put it into practice and experience the blessing and the favorable outcome that you have for each one of us, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
