Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for giving us this opportunity to minister God's word and to spend a few moments in prayer with you. This week, we've been looking at various elements of being robed with righteousness. Today, we look at being baptized into the robe. Galatians chapter 3, verses 26 and 27, ‘For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.’ In scripture, robes often represented position and authority. Joseph in the Old Testament received a special robe from his father. Kings wore royal robes. Priests wore sacred garments. When we are clothed in Christ, we receive a spiritual authority as children of God. Paul explains here and he says, "All of you who are baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." In the original language, the phrase translated as ‘clothe yourself in Christ’ or ‘put on Christ’ means to being endowed with the quality or the power or wrapped around or covered with Christ. All of us have been united with Christ in baptism, having put on Christ. It's just like putting on new clothes. When we were baptized into Christ, we become wrapped up in Christ Jesus like a robe. Our filthy old sin infested rags and garments are cast away and we put on the new righteous nature of Jesus Christ. The idea of changing clothes carried an additional implication for the Galatians. In ancient Roman society, when a young person reached the legal age of citizenship, he would stop wearing clothes of childhood apparel and begin to wear the customary outfit of an adult. Now, this change of attire indicated a rite of passage into the responsibility of adulthood. Everything about that person changes. As believers, we are baptized into Christ. We receive full mature sonship and stature before God. In Luke chapter 15, when the prodigal son returned home broken and ashamed, the father did not lecture him. Instead, he said, "Bring out the best robe and put it on him." The robe represented acceptance, restoration, sonship and honor. The son came home expecting rejection but the father covered him with love. As believers baptized in Christ, we belong to Him and we are sons and daughters and each one of us belong to God's family. It doesn't matter what nation, culture, skin, color, or language; in Christ, there is no distinction of rank, stature, or gender. We all have equal footing with God when it comes to salvation. There is nothing any of us can do to earn it or deserve it. Being baptized into Christ means identifying with Him, identifying with His death, burial and resurrection. We died with Him and through Him, we received a new life which sets us free from sin. Paul asked this question to the Romans. How can we who died in sin still live in it? Therefore, we were buried with Him by baptism into the death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead to the glory of the Father, you and I will walk in the glory of the Lord Jesus every day of our lives. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for your word and we thank you for the promise of your word. Lord, we pray that even as we continue to gain insights on what it means to be robed in righteousness, that this will become true in our heart, this will become a revelation in our spirit. We pray God that you will empower us to walk in this measure, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
