Hello everyone, welcome, such a joy to be back together with you. Today, we will study about the holiness of God which is a subject the bible sheds a lot of light on. Let’s begin by reading Psalm chapter 99, verses 5 and 9, ‘Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy hill, for the Lord our God is holy.’ The bible reveals to us that our God is a holy God. Among all of His characteristics, His characteristic of being holy stands out. In fact, it is central to who He is and the very core of His personality. So, the scriptures time and again repeat this thought that our God is a holy God and the fact that a revelation of this holiness is important for us. As we encounter the holiness of God and understand it, there is something that we can expect from it and that is to have the holiness of God reproduced in us and make us people who will represent and reveal that holiness as well. It is important to know this holiness, recognize it and understand this holiness. How can we do this? It is not a matter of intellectual knowledge but it is a matter of revelation and such revelation can only come through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Isaiah in God’s word had an encounter with God and God have him a glimpse of the throne room and there was an overwhelming recognition of God’s holiness. We see this in Isaish chapter 6, verses 1 through 8, I’d like to read out the first verse to us which says, ‘In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.’ Then we go on to see that the heavenly beings were worshipping this holy God and crying out, ‘holy, holy, holy’ and as Isaiah had a revelation of God’s holiness, a couple of this took place. One very important thing that happened was that Isaiah recognized where he stood in reference or comparison to this holiness of God and he had a greater sense of his own uncleanness or his sinfulness because he was in the presence of an absolutely pure, sinless, clean God and so, he cries out saying, ‘Woe, is me for I am undone.’ So, the holiness of God revealed to Isaiah that God’s standards are so much greater and Isaiah seems to repeat even as he calls out upon the Lord or he refers to God, he uses the term ‘holy God’ because he had a revelation of how mightily holy God is. This is something for us to get a revelation of that God is a holy God, He is a very holy God and that is the first step for us and then there are many wonderful things that God did for Isaiah at that time, He was gracious and allowed him to be in His presence. We will talk about all of this. But the first step for us is to get a revelation of the holiness of God. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, thank you for this beautiful picture that your throne room is holy, you are holy and that we worship you in all of your holiness. Help us to get a full understanding of your holiness, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
