Greetings and it is a wonderful start of a brand-new week. We are excited to be able to come to you each day, during this week, take a few moments in the word of God and in prayer together. This week, we thought that we will go back to an old topic but yet again something we need to be reminded about. We are going to talk about speaking and praying in tongues. We are living in an amazing time when God is pouring out His Holy Spirit and the Spirit of God is at work and through His people and the church, in and among the people of God and so it is a wonderful time. Yes, there is darkness all around us and things around us are very difficult and challenging but in the middle of all of that, there is this wonderful outpouring of the Holy Spirit taking place upon the church and though the church and it is so important for us to be open and learn to move and flow with the Spirit of God. Part of what is happening and part of the way in which we stay in tune and flow with the Holy Spirits is just continuing to just speak and pray in tongues so that is the intent of this week’s devotional, just to remind and encourage us to continue to pray in tongues and just remind us of the wonderful benefits of just taking time to pray in tongues. Today, we begin with an Old Testament scripture in Isaiah chapter 28, verses 11 and 12, the prophet Isaiah spoke and he said, ‘for with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people or His people, to whom He said, “this is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest,” and, “this is the refreshing”; yet they would not hear.’ The prophet Isaiah approximately close to 800 years prior to the day of Pentecost, is foretelling or prophesying about this phenomenon of speaking in tongues. He refers to it as stammering lips and another tongue, a strange or foreign tongue and God is going to speak in that manner to His people. How do we know Isaiah is speaking about this same phenomenon of tongues? We know that because in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, the apostle Paul writes this chapter about speaking/ praying in tongues, in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, verse 21, he is referencing back to Isaiah chapter 28, verses 11 and 12, the scriptures that we just read. So, that is why we know what Isaiah spoke of is having to do with tongues, the gift, the ability the Holy Spirit gives us to speak with tongues. What I want to point out here is God is speaking through the prophet Isaiah and says this is the rest by which we will cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing. Very interesting that God Himself is telling us that this ability that He gives to us to speak and pray in other tongues is a means for us to experience rest and refreshing in our lives. Why did God give us as believers this ability by His Holy Spirit to speak in tongues? It comes as means to bring rest and refreshing for our spirit. So, every time you pray in tongues, remember you are engaging in rest and refreshing for your inner person. So, pray a lot in tongues. Father, we thank you for this means of spiritual rest and refreshing given to us by your Holy Spirit. Help us to receive its benefits, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
