Greetings and thank you for joining us today on our daily devotional. This week, we are reflecting on part of the Christmas story. We are looking specifically at Mary and how she responded to the word that was brought to her by the angel and we are drawing some insights from her life and how she responded to the word of God so that we could similarly respond as God speaks to us through His word and by His Spirit in the situations that we go through. So, Mary has received this amazing word, maybe a shocking word, a word that has really changed everything, a word from God brought to her by the angel of God saying that she is going to bear a son and have a baby and she is not yet married. If we can imagine, first of all, on one side it is amazing, God has hand picked me out and God has given me this message through an angel and yet on the other hand, it is very disruptive, how is she going to tell this to her family, community and Joseph and how are they going to handle all this. It is an amazing word and yet such a disruptive word and this is what God had spoken. How does Mary respond? We saw yesterday that she believed the word and God through Elizabeth encouraged her, blessed are you who believed because there will be a performance of what was spoken to you by the Lord. The next thing we see in Luke chapter 1, verses 46 and 47, it says, ‘And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.’ She is expressing what she is going through. While there is this amazing yet disruptive word God has spoken, she is saying my spirit has rejoiced in God my savior. She is rejoicing in God, magnifying God and thanking God. I’m just imagining this, she may have said, thank you for handpicking me, giving me this word and choosing me to do this through me. In spite of all these confusions and her whole world being shaken up, she is rejoicing in the Lord, her savior. You and I can do the same thing. When we hear the word of God through His written word or through the Holy Sirit, His promise to us, we believe it and we rejoice in it. Even if we don’t understand everything, even if we can’t comprehend how that word is going to be fulfilled, we rejoice in God our savior. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for the example of Mary and we thank you that we can apply these insights into our life that as you speak to us, we can rejoice in God our savior because God has spoken and we rejoice at your word, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
