Welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotion of All People’s church. We are so glad that you could be here and we could study the word of God together. God has called us to live a supernatural life and that is possible through His word and the work of His Spirit. Today, we are looking at the bible’s instruction in many places of seeking and pursuing. We look at 1 Timothy chapter 6, verse 11, it says, ‘But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.’ He is addressing the person who is pursuing God, who is a believer and a disciple saying flee these things. What are those things that the bible is exhorting to flee or give up or run away from? Verse 10 talks about it, the love of money which is the root of evil, which people have gone after and strayed from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. So, the bible is saying, you man of God, flee these things but pursue righteousness. What is righteousness? Righteousness is integrity, the character of God, right standing with God and also doing the right thing. In a simple way to explain it would be to do the right thing, it is the very nature of God Himself, righteousness. We are called to pursue, go after righteousness. There could be many things coming against your pursuit of righteousness an this happens every day. There could an inducement or invitation to stray away from it because pursuit of righteousness is costly. There is a cost to pursuing righteousness because the bible says that all who desire to live godly will suffer persecution. There is a resistance and attack that happens when we want to pursue righteousness, but we are encouraged to pursue righteousness. In fact, along with righteousness which is integrity and character of God and so on, we see that we are called to pursue godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness. We all know that verse which talks about seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, to prioritize and to pursue with an intention to acquire, to experience in our lives the rule and reign of God and His righteousness. The bible promises the favorable outcome or blessings that all these other things will be added to you. So today, we are exhorted to do this no matter what you might be doing or facing or challenged with, this instruction is to seek righteousness and to pursue righteousness. Shall we pray, Father, we thank you for this instruction and reminder to pursue righteousness, to flee form all kinds of ungodliness and the love of money which is the root of all evil. We thank you for this instruction and for the outcome that all the other things will be added into our lives. We give you all the praise and glory, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
