Priestly Garments - Blood and Anointing Oil (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you so much for being with us throughout this week, where we took time to look at the priestly garments which God had prescribed for the priesthood in the Old Testament, where every piece of the attire, which the priest had to wear carries meaning for us as New Testament priests unto the Lord. The last thing that we want to see as we talk about the priestly attire is not a part of their garment but was a very important part of them being set apart in order to serve God. After the priest had worn all of these pieces of garment that God had prescribed, this is in Exodus chapter 29 and 30, it was very important that the priest had to be sprinkled and anointed with blood and anointing oil. God told Moses, you apply the blood on the right ear lobe, right thumb and the right toe of the priest and then you also anoint him with a holy, anointing oil. So, there was a process which we have very briefly summarized of consecrating the priests in order to carry out the ministry. There was blood involved and holy anointing oil involved. He was sprinkled with the blood and anointed with the holy, anointing oil and thus consecrated and readied in order to begin his service in the tabernacle. What does this speak to us about? It is very evident- the blood talking to us about the blood of Jesus that cleanses us but also consecrates our hearing, doing and our going, that means the blood of Jesus sanctifies us, sets us apart that we are consecrated to God in our hearing, doing and going. It is holy and consecrated to God. Also, we are anointed by the power of the Holy Spirit in order to enter in to this place of serving God as priests of the Lord. So, as priests of the Lord, it is the blood of Jesus and the anointing of the Holy Spirit in addition to all of these priestly garments that we spoke about that now readies us to offer up the spiritual sacrifices which are pleasing to God through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, we depend on the blood and the presence of the Holy Spirit as we serve our God.

Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for the insights that we could gain as we looked at the priestly garments that you prescribed under the old covenant. We thank you for all the spiritual realities that we get to walk in and participate in as New Testament believers, as we offer up spiritual sacrifices to you- our praise, worship and consecration, may it be pleasing and acceptable to you through Jesus Christ. We thank you Father, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
