Daily Devotional church in Bangalore

Hello and thank you for this opportunity to come to you today, spend a few moments in the word of God and prayer. This week, we are talking about the human spirit. We began by bringing our attention to the fact that we are really spiritual beings. God created us as spirit beings, He gave us a soul which is our mind, will and emotions and He put that in a human body. The body will grow old and decay and all of that but the real part of us is the spirit and if we understand the dynamics of the human spirit, it will enable us to live effectively the way God wants us to live. Of course, remember God is spirit and so if we are going to connect with God and learn to walk with God, it is going to be first of all our spirit walking with God, who is spirit. It is so important to understand what the spirit is all about. One of the ways we are doing that this week is by looking at the analogies/ pictures God uses in the bible to talk about the spirit. Today, we want to bring our attention to the fact that God says that the human spirit is a place of deposit. For us in modern times, we can use the term bank account, somewhere where you put a deposit in, if you want to think about it like that. In Mathew chapter 12, verses 34 and 35, ‘Jesus said, a good man out of the good treasure of his heart, will bring forth good things; an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart will bring forth evil things. For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.’ The analogy here is the heart/ spirit is a place of deposit. What you deposit in is what is going to come out and one of the ways it comes out is through the words we speak and there are other ways what is in our heart will come out, we will talk about it on another day. But what we want to emphasize is that the spirit is a place of deposit, that we can determine what we put. We are the people who make that deposit into our own spirit. The question we should ask is, what are you depositing in your spirit because remember you can only withdraw out of what you deposit and what you deposit Jesus said is going to determine who you become, because out of the good treasure, good things come; out of the evil treasure, evil things are brought forth. So, what is brought forth in your life is determined by what you have deposited in your spirit. How do things get into our spirit? It gets in to our five gates, what we see, hear, feel, taste, smell, the natural senses are given and through that we are connecting in the natural world and these five gates let things get in through our soul and into our spirit. Now, similarly in parallel to these five natural gates, there are five spiritual gates, that means there are five spiritual faculties of the human spirit that we can see in scripture. The spirit has eyes, ears, the ability to know or receive/ perceive, taste, and feel. Your spirit also has those faculties. So, there are two dimensions, through the natural gates and the spiritual gates, deposit is getting into your spirit, and you determine what you deposit into your spirit and out of the good treasure/ deposit, good things will be brought forth. If the deposit/ treasure is evil, evil things will be brought forth. Remember this simple truth, what you deposit in your spirit determines what you become and what you bring forth in your life. So, deposit good things. Let’s pray, Father, we pray and ask that you will help us guard our spirits, to watch over our spirits, to diligently make sure that we deposit your word, we deposit things of the Spirit so that we can reap and brings forth and become what your word and your Spirit want us to become, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
