People (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you once again for the opportunity to come to you today, spend some time with you and a few moments of prayer together. This week, we are talking about wise investments. What are things that we should invest our time, energy, efforts, focus into based on what we’ve seen in scripture? We are considering different things but today, I want to talk about investing in other people, in their lives, in helping them, developing them, encouraging them, supporting them, assisting them, being a blessing to them. People are so important. Jesus in John chapter 4, verses 35 and 36, Jesus says, ‘lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!’ He is not talking about natural fields but people as a harvest field. Then He says in verse 36, ‘he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.’ This harvest that He is talking about which is all about people, when you do your part in touching/ impacting their lives, you are gathering fruits for eternal life. That means this investment is going to change their lives for eternity. Think about that, that when you invest into people and their lives, helping them to know God and the gospel, building them up, helping them in other ways, this fruit will last for eternity. You are gathering fruits for eternal life. It is going to matter for eternity. There are a lot of things we invest in and spend time on which will just disappear, it is not going to mater tomorrow, day after or a year from now, it will definitely not matter for eternity. But when you invest in peoples lives, He says, you are gathering fruit for eternal life. Paul writing to the Thessalonians in 1 Thessalonians chapter 2, verses 19 and 20, ‘For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are our glory and joy.’ He is saying, look, when I give my life away to invest in you people, there is a joy that is lasting for eternity, you are going to stand in the presence of God, that is my crown and joy of rejoicing, there is eternal joy in that. So, consider ways in which you can invest in people. Not all of us are called to do the same thing. You can invest in people/ serve people in so many different ways. We are not all called to preach and teach the word the same way, we can all do different things but the goal is to invest in people and in a way that will count for eternity. Build them up for this life and for the life to come. Invest in people, there is great joy and rejoicing in doing that. Let’s pray, Father, we ask that you show us how to invest in people, to build people up and to invest in them for this life and for the life to come. We know that these kinds of investments have rich dividend, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
