Welcome everyone, thank you for connecting on this time in the study of God’s word. I would like to read for us from the passage in Philippians chapter 2, verses 5 to 8, ‘Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.’ As we read these lines, we can observe that Jesus had a very unique attitude which we can learn from. The New Living translation puts it this way, verse 5 of Philippians chapter 2 it says, ‘You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.’ What is this attitude that we are talking about? The humility of Jesus. Humility is defined by the Miriam Webstar dictionary as freedom from pride or arrogance, the quality or state of being humble. Being humble is not being haughty, not being arrogant. We find that if there was one person to learn from regarding humility, it would be the Lord Jesus Christ. We can look at His life and observe how humble He was. He was the Son of God and yet, He chose to be obedient to the call of the Father. He left behind His heavenly glory and He put on the human form, He put on humanity and He was fine to live here on the earth with all the limitations that we observe around us. Jesus, He could have still boasted about His deity, He could have still had this air about Himself as He walked the earth and interacted with people but we don’t see that in His life. We see that He was safe in His identity, He was never insecure that having a humble attitude towards people would somehow subtract from who He really was. He was never insecure about these things. He continued to walk in humility with people and He did what God called Him to do. We saw in those scriptures that He made Himself of no reputation which means that He was ok to be limited and that He took the form of a bondservant even the likeness of men and that is the humility of Jesus, He was ok to live as a man and accomplish what God wanted for Him. Let’s pray that we too, will carry this same attitude like Jesus and be humble. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the example of Jesus. We pray that you will give us the grace to walk in humility and do whatever you have called us to do, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
