One Thing - One Thing I Know (Daily Devotional)

We are talking about the occurrences of the phrase ‘one thing’ in the Bible, and who says it, to whom, and what we can learn from it, and what we can apply from the lessons that we learn. So, today we're looking at John chapter 9 and verse 25, where this person who says it, he says, "One thing I know." John chapter 9 talks about the Lord Jesus ministering to this person who was blind, he was blind from birth. Now, this whole incident, there are a lot of takeaways as we go through this chapter, and you can go through that at leisure, and we see that there are so many lessons that we can learn. But I just want to read verses 24 and 25, ‘So, they again called the man who was blind and said to him, "Give God the glory. We know that this man is a sinner." Now, these are the words spoken by the Pharisees. Verse 25, he answered and said, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know. One thing I know, that though I was blind, now I see.’ These are words which are spoken boldly and courageously to the religious leaders of those days, people who wielded a lot of authority and influence, who could actually put people behind bars and so on. This person who had encountered the power of the Lord, the healing touch from God, which changed the way he was living his life, which changed his future completely, he says, "I was blind, but now I see." We learn several lessons. The whole incident itself starts by how the Lord is saying that he's in this condition not because of his sin or his parents' sin, but that the glory of God might be revealed. How is the glory of God revealed? Through the man being healed and so he shares that. And well, the Lord healed the man on a Sabbath which ruffled the religious leaders of those days. And so, they got upset that he was healed on a Sabbath day, they were not happy that this man who was born blind could actually now see. His whole life has changed; they were not happy about that. They refused to acknowledge the miracle, so they kept trying to find out, how did it happen? Who made this happen? They called his parents and investigated, is he your son? Was he blind from birth? They could not acknowledge the miracle because acknowledging the miracle would mean that they have to acknowledge the miracle maker, Jesus Himself. So, we also see this powerful testimony where this person says, "One thing I know." Now all of us we are invited to a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus, to a personal experience of who the Lord Jesus is daily in our lives and when we respond to this invitation, when we experience personally, this will also lead to us saying, "One thing I know." It will lead to this ‘one thing; I know kind of testimony. We are invited to taste and see that the Lord is good, Psalm chapter 34, verse 8. We are invited to experience the Lord as our Savior first and foremost, as our provider, we are called to taste and see that the Lord is our healer, we are called to taste and see that the Lord is our deliverer, that He's our bondage breaker, we are called to taste and see that He is the prince of peace. We are called to taste and see so that we might come to that place of testifying after having tasted, after having seen or experienced and saying, "One thing I know I was blind, but now I see." May the Lord lead us to powerful encounters with Him, which change us, which bring us to a place of inner transformation, or transformation in our whole being physically, emotionally, and spiritually, that we may testify, that our lives may testify in declaring, "One thing I know, I was blind, but now I see." Shall we pray? Father, we thank you, Lord, for these powerful words of testimony from this person who encountered you as the healer. Lord, we have encountered you as our savior and we pray that you will continue to lead us in many ways, God, so that we might have powerful encounters which we cannot deny, which we can come to that place of testifying to everyone around, pointing to the Lord Jesus and saying this ‘one thing’ I know, this ‘one thing’ I can boldly proclaim. Yes, Lord, we give you the praise and glory even as you lead us, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
