One Thing - One Thing I Do (Daily Devotional)

Hello and welcome back, welcome to Living Supernaturally. We hope you're having a great day and in Living Supernaturally, we have our daily devotion, we look at certain portions of scripture and we study them so that we can live a supernatural life. The Lord has invited us, called us to live a supernatural life by His word and by His Spirit and we've been studying about the occurrence of the phrase ‘one thing’ in few places in scripture. Today, we are looking at Philippians chapter 3 and verses 13 and 14, these are the words of the apostle Paul who is testifying and saying, "One thing I do.” Let's read the two verses. Philippians chapter 3, verse 13, "Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” Verse 14, “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Now in this chapter Paul goes on to say that all the accomplishments that he had done in the world before encountering Christ, he counts it as nothing and he goes on to talk about the excellence of the knowledge of having known Christ. And so, here he says, "I do not count myself to have apprehended." After his journey with the Lord, after all ministry experiences, after all those revelations that he received and after the Lord enabled him to write two-thirds of the New Testament, after all that, he says, "I do not count myself to have apprehended." Meaning, he's saying there is more, there is always more with regard to the Lord, there's always more to know, there's always more to experience, there's more to receive and more to give. And so, he says, "I do not count myself to have apprehended." In all his spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness, he says, "there's more to this". And then he says, "But one thing I do.” It’s a statement of importance and which we need to take note. He says, "This one thing I do." What is that one thing? He talks about forgetting those things which are behind. Secondly, reaching forward to those things which are ahead and thirdly, he talks about pressing towards the goal of the price being the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. So, he's talking about forward-focused determined journey. Forward-focused determination and he's saying, "I'm not going to be dwelling on past failures, nor am I going to dwell on past achievements because those things which are behind is a mixed bag of failures, some accomplishments, some victories, and so on. So, he's saying, "Forgetting those things that are behind because there is more to God. I don't count myself to have reached the place, I don't count myself to have arrived, there's more to journey on. So, I need to forget, I need to let go of my past failures in order to move ahead. Because if I dwell in that place of being anchored to my past failures, I will not move ahead into the things that God has for me. So, forgetting those things that are behind, past failures. It could also be past achievements, if we stay in that place, praise God for that for the past achievements, whatever he has enabled us to achieve and accomplish and through our learning, our experience, and by the work of His Spirit, praise God for that. But, if we would just stay there and not move ahead, not journey ahead with God, then we are losing out big time. And so, Paul says, "Forgetting." Then he also talks about reaching forward. He says, "I reach forward to those things which are ahead because there are things that are ahead." I just want to encourage us today that there are things that are ahead. No, it's not the end of the road. With God, there's always more, and there are those things that are ahead of us, the best is yet to come. So, reach forward. Thirdly, he talks about pressing towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. So, all of us, we have a call of God upon our lives. It's unique, it's nothing that we can compare to others and give ourselves a rating of this is better or that one's call is better. No, we can't do that, the call is unique. But we need to press towards the goal. We need to keep going, keep on moving on towards that goal. There could be things that are happening in different seasons of our life. There could be challenges, there could be trials, there could be seasons which pull us down, maybe discouragements from the enemy himself, or some discouragements and certain thoughts of the past, some regrets and disappointments. But we need to reach towards that goal. We need to press on towards the goal and not let any of these things anchor us to the past even as we are anchored to God's word. So, as we're praying, you pray and ask God, let's pray and ask God, "Lord, you lead us, we want to forget those things." Like Paul said, "One thing I do." We want to make this our one thing and forget those things and reach forward. So, let's pray, Father, we thank you for these verses, we thank you for this lesson. We thank you for the encouragement that we can press on because there's always more and thank you for the reminder that we can also testify and declare, "This one thing I do." Yes, Lord. enable us, lead us into all that you have for us, in Jesus' matchless name we pray, Amen.
