Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to journey with you this week. In each of our devotionals this week, we have been looking back at the Old Testament and the different kinds of offerings that God told His people to bring and trying to understand if that would have meaning for us as New Testament believers in the offerings and sacrifices we offer to God in our worship of God. The last two that we want to look at are the wave and heave offerings to God. We read about these offerings in Exodus chapter 29 and Leviticus chapter 7, verse 30 and Numbers chapter 18, verse 24. The wave offering and heave offering both have to do with different sacrifices, the animal sacrifices they offered, the grain offerings they offered, the bread, cakes which they brought or other materials that they brought. The wave offering was something they lifted up before God and they waved it left to right, they waved it in the presence of God and then they gave it to the priests. The heave offering had to do again with portions of animals or sometimes included the first fruits of the harvest; the tithes and harvest were part of the heave offering and the contributions they wanted to bring to the tabernacle was a heave offering. It was an offering that was heaved/ lifted up vertically, that was the only difference. The wave offering was a wave from left to right, the heave offering was offered up to God vertically and both these of course was then left to the priests to consume as part of their maintenance, caring for them and taking care of their needs. So, the wave offerings and heave offering was offered to God and then left to be consumed in the service of God, for the people who served God. So, what does this mean to us as New Tetsament believers? We bring our offerings, tithes and things that we want to give in to the service of God, we offer it to God, we wave it before God and say, God this is completely yours, lift it up to God and yet we realize that we are not physically sending it up to heaven but it is going to be used for His service here on earth, to serve the people who are serving Him, to bless the people who belong to Him. So, when you give your tithes, offerings and give to God’s people or work of God, in a way, it is a wave and heave offering to God saying, it is all yours and yet I know it is going to be used here on earth by the people who serve God to carry out the work of God, to meet the needs of people of God, their personal needs and so on but it is something God said you bring in order to honor Him and it is actually first offered unto God before it is being used on earth for the work of God. So, today, when we offer our sacrifices to God, it is saying, God it is completely yours first, I’m waving it before you, offering it up to you even though I know it is going to be used here on earth to carry out the work. You first offer it to God before it is being used here on earth to serve the purpose of God. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for the opportunity to offer up all of these different sacrifices and offerings to you. Thank you for Christ who is our one and complete offering and, on His sacrifice, we have the privilege today, in our day and time to offer to you the best we can bring. May our offerings and our sacrifices be pleasing to you and may it be a blessing for the work of your kingdom here on earth, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
