Greetings and thank you for joining us today in our daily devotional. This week, we are looking at the different kinds of offerings that God instructed His people to bring to the tabernacle and then later to the temple as an act of their worship and what they could represent for us today as New Testament believers. We worship God in spirit in truth and offer up spiritual offerings and sacrifices. Today, I want to talk about the peace offering which we read about in the book of Leviticus chapter 3 and also in chapter 7, where the people were encouraged to bring an offering, sometimes it was a meal that was shared as an expression of their relationship with God that was restored and the fellowship that they enjoyed with God and they brought that saying, look, I have now peace with God, my relationship with God is restored and I recognize that and I'm grateful for that. So, they would bring this peace offering and often share it with people, share it with each other as an expression of their own reconciliation with God and gratitude to God for relationship that was restored, relationship that was blessed and an expression of that. Now in the New Testament, of course, the scriptures point to the Lord Jesus in Ephesians chapter 2, verse 14 saying ‘He is our peace,’ with the idea of Him being our peace offering or the one who brings us peace or puts us in that relationship of peace with God, our atonement. He is our peace. He has reconciled us to God - Colossians chapter 1 and verse 20. And so, Christ Himself has become our “peace offering” reconciling us to God and in addition to that, we believe, we express our gratitude and thanks to God for the relationship we share with Him, that we have been set at peace with God and so we offer up thanksgiving and say God, I thank you that we have peace with you, that you have put us in a place of grace and of righteousness in your eyes that through Christ, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ as Romans chapter 5, verses 1 and 2 tell us. And so, we offer up our thanksgiving to God, expressing gratitude for the relationship we share with Him and also with one another. We walk in that fellowship, we walk in a relationship of peace, we follow and pursue peace with our brethren and we're grateful to God for that and for the fellowship we share through that. The Lord's supper that we partake of in many ways expresses it as Paul explains in 1 Corinthians chapter 10 that when we partake of the bread, it's a communion, a fellowship in the body of Christ. So, it's not only vertical, but it's also expression of our relationship. We all eat of that same bread and drink of that same cup. A peace that has been established between us and God and between us and our fellow man; the peace offering which we walk in and express today. Let's pray together, Father, we thank you that we have peace with you through Christ and we also enjoy this fellowship with one another, peace with one another because of Christ and we are grateful for that. We offer up thanksgiving for that, we thank you for the fellowship we have with you and with each other, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
