Greetings and thank you for joining us today. This week, we have been looking at the Old Testament, the different kinds of offerings that God told His people to bring and see what they would mean for us in the New Testament as New Testament believers. Today, we will talk about the drink offering which we read about in Numbers chapter 15 and also in the book of Exodus chapter 29. The drink offering was wine that was poured out on the alter, many times along with the burnt offering and grain offerings. It represented the people expressing their joy and full devotion to God. The drink offering - wine represented joy and also represented their whole, complete, full devotion because it was completely poured out along with the burnt offerings that were offered on the altar of sacrifice. So, it was an expression of their joy and gratitude for some good thing that had taken place in their life and also it was an expression of their complete devotion to God. In the New Tetsament, we see this fulfilled in Jesus. Isaiah chapter 53, pointing to Christ, it says in verse 12, ‘He poured out His soul unto death and made Himself an offering for sin.’ It is talking about Christ being poured out as a complete offering for sin. It also talks to us about how we express not only joy but our full devotion to God. The apostle Paul in talking about his service unto God, his ministry- specifically his ministry to the believers in Philippi, in Philippians chapter 2, verse 17 and even in his ministry in general, he writes to Timothy in 2 Timothy chapter 2, verse 6 and in both these passages, Paul uses the same language and understanding of his life being poured out as a drink offering unto God. So, here he is offering himself with joy, holy and completely, fully poured out but done with joy, his own life being offered up. He says, my life is like that drink offering being poured out both in service for the people of God and as unto the Lord. So, think about this, that as New Testament believers, we have the invitation, the joy, the privilege of pouring out our lives in service to God and His people and we do it as a drink offering meaning it is done with joy and it is completely poured out, nothing is held back along with all the other sacrifices that we offer to God. Think about your life being poured out as a drink offering unto God. Let us pray, Father, we thank you that today in our day and time, we can offer our lives as a drink offering, full of joy and fully poured out, complete devotion, as we walk with you, serving you and the people you have assigned to us, we thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
