Shalom, thank you for joining us for a new series of Living Supernaturally. Through this week,
we are going to be looking at an exciting topic on the surety of God's promises. In our world, we
see that promises are broken whether it be in relationships, whether it be at the workplace or
whether even at a larger setting of a government. We see that commitments generally
fall through. This week, when we are looking at God's promises, we're going to look into God's
word and look at the surety of His promises. We will see what God's word says
about the reliability and the certainty of His promises. What are God's promises? God's
promises are declarations of His will and His intention. They're just not casual statements but it
is deeply rooted in who God is, in His character and His nature. God's promises are
always backed by His unchanging nature. Unlike human beings, God does not lie, He does not
change His mind. His faithfulness means that we can trust Him completely. Every promise He
makes is sure to come to pass because it is deeply integral to who He is and His perfect
integrity. One of the most striking examples of God's promises can be found in the book
of Joshua. We read that after years of wandering, the Israelites faced battles, they endured
trials but finally they reached their promised land. Joshua chapter 21, verse 45 it reads, ‘not a
word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came
to pass.’ This verse really shows the gratitude Joshua had, that every single promise God had
made to Israel was fulfilled. He says not a word failed, not one word failed. Joshua reflects on
how the Lord was faithful to His promises over the very many years. Throughout the time of the
Israelites in the wilderness, as they passed through the Red Sea, as they crossed the Jordan, as
they conquered many enemies God was always faithful. Joshua and the Israelites experienced
so much and each time, they could come back to the foundation of the promises of God. They
could take root in the sustenance that God gave them over the years that He had walked with
them. Joshua held on to the promise that God had given him many years before even he saw it
come to fruition. What can you and I take from this? God's promises are not just historical
events but they are personal assurances for you and me today. God is always clear about the
direction He gives His people. He's faithful and He desires that we are dependent on Him.
The Israelites saw the promises of God all around them and they could look back at His
faithfulness. This reminds us that God is equally involved in your life and my life, guiding us,
providing for us and sustaining us through every circumstance. As we trust God, we know that
not one word of God that He has spoken has ever failed in our lives. Let's pray together,
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the assurance of your promises. Lord, we know that your
promises are things that you intend over our lives. Lord, we take courage in the truth that not
one word of yours will fail. Thank you because we are called to depend on you in everything
that we do, help us to do that, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
