Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much once again for giving us this wonderful opportunity to minister to you and to spend a few minutes in prayer. This week, we're talking about Bible study and the application of God's word in each of our lives and today, we're going to look at meditating on scriptures. Psalms chapter 1 and verse 2, ‘but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.’ What does it mean to meditate? Meditating on God's word is marinating, mulling over, reflecting, dwelling and pondering on the scriptures resulting in a transformative engagement with God. It's done in a quiet time with God, usually alone and it is empowered by the Holy Spirit. Its purpose is to replace our thinking with God's thinking. The spiritual practice of meditation is just not unique only to Christianity. Many non-Christian religions and secular groups practice meditation. However, when the Bible speaks of meditation as it often does, it's not the kind of meditation that seeks to disengage, silence or empty the mind or in a transcendental form of meditation. Now the scripture teaches us that meditation is actively engaging the mind for the purpose of understanding God's word and putting it into practice. Meditation helps us to gain a deeper understanding of God's word. It enables us to contemplate the meaning of the text and how it applies in our lives. This in turn helps us to grow in wisdom, knowledge and spiritual maturity. When we read the Bible, we are primarily focused on gathering information and knowledge. We may learn about the history of God's people, the teachings of Jesus and the promises of God. However, when we meditate on those same truths, we move beyond gathering information and seek to understand the meaning of the text and how it applies in our lives. We are seeking something more than history or doctrine. We are seeking transformation. Meditation requires time and effort; it cannot be rushed. It involves withdrawing from the distractions of this life so we can fix our eyes on the Lord Jesus and His word. By shutting out the noise of this world, we are better able to focus our attention on God and understand His ways. Here are four practical tips on meditating God's word. Carve out a specific time each day to get alone with God and read His word. Start with prayer. Ask God to enable us, to help us understand what we read. Choose a small portion of scripture, think about what that passage means, study it in depth, ask God for a revelation. Lastly, consider how you can apply that passage or that word in your life in practical ways and ask God to help us to follow through in obedience to what He shows us to do. By this way, by applying God's word in our life, we will see fruit and be blessed. Let's pray, Father, we want to thank you for teaching us once again in your word. We pray that you will enable each one of us to cut out the noise of this world, the things that overpower us that we may spend time with you every day, set out that time so that it would be beneficial for us, that we may hear you and we may know that you are there with us speaking in and through us, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
