Hello and welcome back, welcome to Living Supernaturally. We have been meditating on God’s word and we’ve been studying the first epistle of John- 1 John. We’ve been looking at several things on the love of God. The epistle in John writes about the love of God and what the love of God accomplishes in the believer and what the love of God does in influencing the believer and impacting others’ lives. And so, today we are looking at 1 John chapter 3 and verses 16 to 18, it says here, ‘By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.’ So, here’s a very practical instruction related to love, the love of God. And he says, how do we know love? We know because of God’s action, because He laid down His life for us. We know love, John chapter 3, verse 16 says, ‘God so loved the world that He gave…’ So, we see that love is not something which is a concept which is locked in our hearts, which is something that we have in our minds but it is something that relates to action, that translates to action, that moves us to act in line with God’s love. And so, we see here that John says that we know love because He laid down His life for us and so also, we ought to do the same thing. If we say we love someone, we also ought to do the same thing. And he says that whoever sees or has this world’s goods, whoever has material wealth, whoever has the means to live in this world, but if he sees his brother who has a need and who has a lack in certain areas and if I as a brother shut my heart from him and not share in these world’s goods, how can I say that the love of God abides in me? Because God’s love definitely needs to move me to action. So, which means that I am not actually expressing this God kind of love, are not allowing this God’s love to abide in me, because if I allow God’s love to abide in me that will definitely move me to act and to express it in action. So, in other words love is a verb. Love is action is what he says. In verse 18, ‘my little children let us not love in word or in tongue.’ So, meaning don’t just sing those songs about love, don’t just say those words about love but show it in your deed and in truth. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you Lord for this admonition. Thank you for this rebuke that is in your word and we thank you that it is a wakeup call for us who say that we have God’s love, who say that we love others. Lord, let us not love in just word or in tongue but in deed, in the actions and in truth. Lord, enable us not to walk in deception but to walk in the truth, we thank you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
