Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally, where we take a few moments to meditate on God’s word and pray together. This week, we have been talking about being chosen in God’s kingdom. 1 Peter chapter 2, verses 4 and 5, ‘Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.’ When we were kids, I remember going out with my friends into the fields and we would pick up stones of different shapes and sizes. We would spend the whole day picking up these stones and at the end of the day, we would just dump all the stones under a tree, it all looked like an unwanted pile of stones. After doing all of this, the whole idea of being living stones is not very compelling. But this is not what the apostle Peter had in mind when he is calling us a living stone. By calling us living stones, he is saying that we have been selected and crafted to be part of a beautiful structure in God’s kingdom and each stone is deliberately placed in Christ Jesus, made alive by the Spirit of God. Peter reminds us that Christ is the cornerstone, chosen by God the Father and like Christ, we are being built up to become a community of God’s people. Stones are often described as dead or without life, but in Christ Jesus, we have been made born again through the enduring, empowering and living word of God. We are living stones that are lasting, precious, and permanent in the sight of God and this is because of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s pray, Lord Jesus, we want to thank you for calling us to be a living stone. We thank you that your word is alive in us, that you have called us to be part of your kingdom. Lord, we pray that you will empower and lead us to be these living stones, to build your kingdom and glorify you in all that we do and serve you in faithfulness, we thank you, we give you all the praise and glory, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
