Greetings and thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to come to you today and spend some time in God’s word and in prayer. This week, we’ve been talking about personal evangelism and from the perspective pf people needing Jesus, that people all around us, people we know and don’t know, friends, strangers, family members that every person needs Jesus. In Mathew chapter 9, verses 36 to 38, the bible talks about the ministry of Jesus and it records this, it says, ‘But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”’ There is a lot to unpack in these three verses but I want to focus on how Jesus viewed people. He saw the crowds of people, multitudes and it says here that He was moved with compassion for them, why? Because He saw something beyond what met the natural eye. In the natural, He probably saw that they seem ok, well dressed, clothed, had food, going about their lives, families and all those things were going on and yet, He saw something. He saw that they were weary and scattered. Their life was so burdensome, they were burdened and they were running around helter skelter, at random. He was moved with compassion because they were like sheep without a shepherd. No body to lead, guide, no meaning, direction, purpose, protection, they were like that. So, Jesus was moved with compassion for them. The question I want to ask is as we go about our lives, wherever we are living, we see people all around us, going about their daily lives, do we see beyond what meets the natural eye? Do we see their need for Jesus? Do we see their spiritual condition, the things they are struggling with? And when Jesus comes in to meet their need, Jesus was moved with compassion. He told His disciples, harvest is great. Now, He is using agricultural language and said, we need to do something, we need to bring them in to the place where they should be, that is what He is essentially saying. So, are we moved that way to bring the gospel of Jesus, to address their deeper, eternal and spiritual needs? Things that are beyond what we see in the natural. May we be moved with compassion. When we look at people, may we see their spiritual condition and recognize the harvest is plenty and is waiting to be reached. Let’s pray, God, we ask that you would open our hearts and eyes, that we may see the true condition of people, like sheep without a shepherd, that we will be able to meet their needs and bring Jesus to them, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
