Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Paul Emmanuel
Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for giving us this opportunity to minister God's word and to spend a few moments in prayer. This week, we are spending time talking about life group ministries and how we are to call and raise up new leaders in the ministry. Today, we'll share a few thoughts on discipleship through community. Proverbs chapter 27 and verse 17, ‘As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.’ Discipleship was never meant to be a solo journey. While personal faith is deeply individual, spiritual growth flourishes in the context of community. God designed us to walk alongside one another, encouraging, challenging and strengthening each other in ways that we can simply not experience alone. The image of iron sharpening iron reminds us that growth happens through interaction and not only in isolation. Acts chapter 2 verses 42 to 47, paints a vivid picture of the early church. They devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread and prayer and as a result, their lives overflowed with joy, generosity and witness. Community becomes the soil where discipleship takes root and flourishes. At its core, discipleship through community means life-on-life investment. It's not limited to formal Bible studies, but it's extended to shared meals, honest conversations and mutual accountability. When believers open their lives to one another, they model Christ's love in practical ways. Hebrews chapter 10, verses 24 and 25 urges us, it says, "Spur one another on love and good deeds and not neglect meeting together." Discipleship is not only about personal growth, but also about serving one another. Communities that engage in projects, outreach or workplace ministry embody the great commission collectively. Finally, discipleship through community requires intentional rhythms, regular gatherings, prayer, community and fellowship. It creates consistency. Ultimately, community reflects God's heart. It reminds us that we are not alone in this journey, but we are all interconnected with others, fulfilling the great commission. As you engage in discipleship through community, you're not only growing close to others, you grow closer to God who works through relationships, and He begins to shape our lives for our benefit and building our lives for His kingdom. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for your word once again. We thank you for exhorting us in your word, teaching us that you have called us to walk in community with one another, to build each other up, to sharpen each other and even as we do this, wherever we are in our journey of life, help us to sharpen one another and to build your kingdom, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
