Hello everyone, such a joy to connect together with you and in this week's series, we're going
to look at pursuing the things of God. Let's begin by reading from Hosea chapter 6 and verse 3,
the scripture says, ‘Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is
established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former reign to
the earth.’ God calls us to go after Him God calls us to pursue Him and God promises that He
will respond. This is a passage from the book of Hosea and Hosea was speaking these words,
encouraging the people of Israel to return to God and to receive God's restoration. And so, as
we hear these words, Hosea is instructing the people to seek the Lord and to go after the Lord.
One word that we can focus in on is the word ‘pursue’. So, we just saw there it says, let us
know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. The word ‘pursue’ in other translations it is the
word follow or follow on and it simply refers to chasing after, it simply refers to going after with
one's full attention. And so, this is what God is calling us to do to come after Him not with a
halfhearted attitude but with a wholehearted pursuit and He also speaks to us and He says that
He will respond and He will answer. As we look at this passage further, we have the references
to morning as well as rain and we know that both of these bring us memories of hope and
refreshing. And so, God is saying that when we chase after Him and when we seek Him, the
response of God will be refreshing and one bringing in hope into our lives. Rain is also
something that the farmer waits on. We see in various parts of the world that people wait upon
certain rains to sow the seed and then wait upon the rains to harvest. Similarly, God is
promising us and He's saying that in a timely manner, He will visit us and He will release
everything that you and I need. But the requirement that He lays before us is for us to seek
after Him and as we've noted in this passage, He has promised for us the former and the latter
rain, which also we know scriptures refer to with regard to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
And so, this is an encouragement friends for us to seek after the Lord wholeheartedly. Yes,
there could be distractions that come our way, there could be questions and doubts and even
as we are battling through various struggles, some sort of discouragement and disappointment
that may prevent us from seeking the Lord and yet God's voice to us and encouragement is for
us to pursue after Him. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for who you are. We
pray that you will give us a heart that wants to know you more, to seek you more and more.
Lord, we want you to be our first pursuit, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
