Welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotional of All People’s church. We have been studying the word of God and specifically we have been looking at various miracles that the Lord Jesus did during His earthly ministry and the lessons we can learn from all these instances of healing. Today, we are looking at how Jesus heals the man by the pool and we see this in John chapter 5, verses 1 to 15, we are not going to read through all the verses but pick a few. We see that he was in this place or pool called Bethesda in Hebrew which has 5 porches and a lot of sick people were there and something unusual/ supernatural would happen that an angel would go and stir up the pool and the person who stepped in first when the water was bring stirred was made well of whatever disease or condition the person had- something strange and unusual that we see in the bible. A certain man was there who had an infirmity for thirty-eight years. Can you believe that? Thirty-eight years he had this infirmity, he couldn’t move, he was paralyzed. The Lord Jesus sees him, knows that he had been on that condition for a long time, but He asks him that question- do you want to be made well? He looks at the man and asks him if he wants to be made well? What a strange question! Well, the response of the sick person is even stranger because he says, sir, I have no man to put me into the pool. The man is thinking about what had happened in the past and the reason for which he is still there and he says, I have no person to put me in the pool. While I am coming, another steps down. Probably he tried to drag himself to the pool and he says, another steps ahead of me. Well, the Lord Jesus gives him a command. He issues a command of healing- He says, rise, take up your bed and walk. It says here in verse 9, ‘And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.’ The Jews had something to say to that. They said that it not lawful for you to carry your bed on the Sabbath. They have this argument with him. But then he says, He who made me well said to me, take up your bed and walk and who is that man? Well, this person who was healed didn’t even know, Jesus had withdrawn by then. This is something that we see here that the man obeyed despite having given up all hope. So, he couldn’t even give a straight answer but he still obeyed. The Lord also warned him saying, sin no more. You have been made well, sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you. We see partly the reason for that condition also. Even as we pray today, let’s remember this and pray in faith.
Father, we thank you that we can come to your presence whenever we want to. Even as draw near today, we know that you ask us that question- do you want to be made well? And our response is yes, Lord! Even as you declare/ release your word of healing over us, your word that doesn’t return to you void, we receive your word of healing. For you send your word and you heal every disease and so we receive that. God, we will be careful to give you all the glory and also even as you warned in certain times and places that we do not sin again or go back to those things which caused the doorway to open, yes Lord we will be careful. So, we give you all the glory and praise even today, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
