Hello everyone, let's continue to speak about leading and today we will talk about leading as an example. Let's read from John chapter 13, verses 12 through 15, ‘so when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, ‘do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.’ So, this is the time when the Lord Jesus washed the feet of His disciples and after doing so, He encouraged them to wash one another's feet. The essence of what He did that day was to demonstrate servant leadership, was to demonstrate service to one another and that's the manner in which He wanted His disciples to carry on the work of ministry, by serving the people who were entrusted to Him. So, when we consider Jesus, we know that He first set the example, He gave us the standard and then He wanted us to follow it and this is true in all aspects of His life. When we look at the way Jesus communed with the Father, the kind of prayer life that He had, that was something that the disciples noticed and they went and asked the Lord Jesus to teach them how to pray. It's possible that they did it because they first saw it in the life of Jesus. So, He set the example as a person of prayer and then He teaches about prayer. We know in Matthew chapter 6, He taught about how one should pray and from Jesus's example, we recognize that we too should be people of prayer. This is true about all aspects of Jesus's life and ministry, even when it came to the exercise of faith, we know that Jesus took His disciples along and as He did the work of the ministry, they saw healings, they saw deliverances, they were free to observe Jesus and ask Him questions whenever necessary so that they too can do ministry the way He did. So, He gave them the example and then He wanted them to do the ministry. As we look at what happened to the disciples after His death, burial, resurrection, we know that they turned out to be some of the most incredible leaders of their times, in the season of persecution, leading the church so beautifully but they had to be trained by Jesus and He did it by His example. So friends, this is a reminder for us that for us to lead people, we firstly need to set an example, give them a standard and then ask people to follow it and that's the right way to lead people. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the life of Jesus, we thank you for the beautiful example that He set for us. We just pray that in leading others that we will make this a priority to first be those who model it out for others, be an example, a pattern and then lead people so that many lives can be blessed, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
