Knowledge - Growing in knowledge (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for giving us this opportunity to minister God's word and take a few moments in prayer. This week, we are focusing on the topic of knowledge and today we look at growing in the knowledge of God. 2 Peter chapter 3 and verse 18, ‘Grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever.’ God never intended for us as believers to remain spiritually immature. Just as a child grows physically, Christians are called to grow spiritually in wisdom and understanding and the knowledge of God. Bible knowledge is more than just collecting information, it is knowing God deeply, understanding His word and applying that word daily in our lives. True spiritual knowledge starts with knowing God. The primary way that believers can grow in knowledge is through the scriptures. The psalmist says, "Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path." Jesus overcame temptations using the word of God. Now, we can't make ourselves grow spiritually, but that doesn't mean we are passive either. Believers who know the scripture automatically become spiritually strong and become more discerning. Knowledge without application produces little fruit. The Holy Spirit teaches believers and reveals truth. In John chapter 14 and verse 26, this is what Jesus says, ‘But the helper, talking about the Holy Spirit will teach you all things.’ Spiritual knowledge is not just gained by intellect alone. We need to depend on the Holy Spirit to illuminate God's word and bring revelation into our heart and our spirit. Before the Pentecost, the disciples misunderstood Jesus's teachings, they had many questions but after receiving the Holy Spirit they gained boldness, wisdom, clarity and there was spiritual understanding. In today's verse, Peter urges his readers to make every effort to grow. It's an effort that you and I must take. The Spirit works to cultivate our faith when we listen to God's word through meditating or hearing the word of God or even in times of worship, in our personal time of prayer and the Spirit constantly is working in us to respond to opportunities to show God's love and share our faith to others. Spiritual knowledge increases when we obey God and what God teaches us. Sometimes, you and I want deeper revelations while ignoring basic obedience. Growth happens when we practice God's truth daily. God asked Abraham to leave his homeland without knowing where he's going to step into. As Abraham obeyed step by step, God revealed the plan for him. Obedience opens the doors for greater understanding. Grow through trials. Difficult seasons often deepens spiritual understanding. God uses leaders, mentors, teachers, and fellow believers to help us grow. Proverbs chapter 27 and verse 17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." Growing in knowledge is a lifelong journey. So never stop growing, never stop learning, never stop pursuing the deeper knowledge of God. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for your word and we thank you for reminding us today that we are called to walk not as children but to walk as mature believers. Help us, teach us to walk in maturity, to grow from strength to strength and from glory to glory. We thank you Lord that you are with us and the Holy Spirit will enable us to walk in maturity, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
