Shalom and welcome to another episode of Living Supernaturally. If you’ve been following through with
us though the last couple of days, we been looking at kingdom parables- parables that Jesus taught
about the kingdom of God. It helps us gleam into spiritual truths about the kingdom of God. In our
devotion today, we are going to be looking at another parable that is seen in Mathew chapter 13, which
is the parable fog the hidden treasure. In this short parable of the hidden treasure, Jesus tells of the
story of a person finding embedded treasure in a field and goes and hides it back again and he goes and
sells everything that he possesses in order to buy the field. What does this parable show? The parable
shows the immeasurable value of the kingdom of God. Mathew chapter 13, verse 44 reads, ‘Again, the
kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he
goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.’ What can we see from this parable? We see that the
man in this parable recognizes that the treasure that he finds is worth than more than anything and
everything that he owns. It has immeasurable and immense value so much so that he sells everything
that he possesses in order to buy what he found. This is for us to mean that knowing Christ and
experiencing His salvation is the most powerful, immeasurable and immense treasure that we can find.
Nothing compares to the worth of knowing Jesus as our savior as being in the kingdom of God. The
parable also says that the man finds the treasure meaning that God’s kingdom is what we must
personally seek and encounter. We find it when we seek for it. We also read that the treasure is hidden,
indicating that the spiritual truth can be missed by many and cannot be found by either intelligence,
knowledge or worldly wisdom or any kind of power. Though salvation is a free gift available to us all,
each one of us must individually respond to the invitation that God has for us. We must seek it and
embrace it. We also see that this man was overjoyed to find the treasure as he understood the immense
value of it. When you and I truly grasp the riches of God’s love and grace, it becomes a joyful choice. The
surrender becomes a joyful choice and not a burden. The kingdom of God brings lasting joy that will
outweigh any other thing that we may want to pursue. This parable teaches that God’s kingdom is of
immeasurable value. Just as the man joyfully sold everything to gain that treasure, we are called to
wholeheartedly and joyfully pursue Jesus knowing that a relationship with Him is the greatest treasure
we can possess. We know that true joy and fulfillment comes only when we make Christ our highest
priority. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we pray that we would make you the first priority in our
lives. You are the one who fulfills us and gives us joy immeasurable. Knowing you is of immense value to
us. May we seek after you, encounter you and embrace our relationship with you. Thank you for this
truth, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
