Jesus Our Role Model - Jesus and Ministry (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you for joining us this Christmas week. We've been taking time to look at Jesus as our role model and look at various facets of His earthly life and encourage ourselves to follow that example. Today, we will look at Jesus and His ministry. So, we know from scripture that at about the age of 30, Jesus transitioned in to the ministry that the Father had for His life and He spent about 3 years preaching, teaching and healing. So, when we look at the ministry of Jesus, what do we see? We'll highlight a few things. First of all, He went about both preaching, teaching and doing supernatural things: healing, delivering and so on. And so, today in the ministry, we want to balance both, we want to do both. We want to preach and teach the word of God, which Jesus spent much of His time doing and He also brought healing, He brought deliverance, He worked miracles in the lives of people and so we too must pray and ask God to do supernatural things in and for the people we minister to. We also see that the Lord Jesus ministered under the Father, the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He began His ministry with those words, ‘the Spirit of the Lord is upon me for He's anointed me to preach…’ And so, you and I, also learn to walk under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and ministered through the power of the Holy Spirit. And the third thing that we highlight about the ministry of Jesus is He did what the Father wanted Him to do. He didn't randomly go and just do things on His own. Jesus said, ‘I do what I see the Father do and whatever He teaches me that's what I speak.’ So, even in His ministry, He was listening to the Father and He was following the Father's direction. So, in the things that we do in ministry, we seek to know what God wants us to do and then pursue that because that's the way we're going to be a channel of His blessing. So, we minister His word and the supernatural. We minister by the power of the Holy Spirit and we do the things that the Father wants us to do. We follow the Father's will in ministry. Let's pray, Father, we ask that you'll help us to follow the example of Jesus even in ministry, to let Him be our role model in the way we minister to people and serve, so that lives can be touched for your kingdom. Help us to do this, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
