Hi everyone, welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again, such a joy to come together, to meditate on God’s word and spend these few moments in prayer. This week, we’ve been talking about a few miracles that Jesus did during His earthly ministry. Luke chapter 8 and verse 40, ‘So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him.’ In context to the scripture that we just read, Jesus is returning from the country of Gadarenes which is opposite Galilee where He heals a demon possessed man and is now returning back to the Jewish towns. He noticed that there are large crowds waiting for Him. Patience is not always easy but the crowds waited in eagerness for Jesus. Everyone had come to see Jesus and was expecting something to happen. First, a religious leader named Jairus was desperate for his daughter to be made well. She was dying and the only hope that Jairus had was to go to Jesus and request Him to come and heal her. After hearing about this, Jesus started down the road to where the little girl was. He planned to go there and change the entire situation. What no one else saw was the desperation of a woman who was ill for over 12 years but she had believed that she would be well if she only touched Jesus. What no one expected was that Jesus would stop in the crowd, to find the woman and bring healing to her. Jairus was running out of time and he needed Jesus to keep walking. The woman however wasn’t expecting Jesus to stop and address her because this woman was in a desperate situation. She was in a desperate condition; her bleeding made her ceremonially and socially unclean and this would be quite a burden to live with for 12 years. According to the Jewish ideas of this time, if this woman touched anyone, she would impart her uncleanness to them and they also will not be able to partake in any of the worship in Israel. The woman approached Jesus with a degree of superstition, thinking there was power in the hem of His garment. Even though her faith had elements of superstition, she believed in the healing power of Jesus and that just by touching the hem of His garment, she could be healed. More than anything, her faith was in Jesus and the object of faith was much more important than the quality of faith. We can imagine how Jairus’ heart sank when he heard the news that his daughter is dead. He must have thought, I knew this took too long, but Jesus gave Jairus two things. First, He told him, do not be afraid, second, He told him only to believe. We go on to read that Jairus’ daughter was healed and she was restored back to life. There was a difference in both these healings. Jairus’ daughter was healed secretly, the woman was healed publicly. What is amazing about this story is that Jesus had time for both. Jesus always has time for us, whether we are patient or not. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for your word. We thank you, even as we learn the wonderful miracles that you have done, we learn that you are a God who is patient with us, that you always have time for us. We pray that we will continue to put our trust in you, put our hope in you, trusting in the Lord with all our heart and leaning not on our own understanding. We pray that you will enable and equip us to continue in faith, we give you all the glory, honor and praise, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
