Shalom, we come to the last episode of our series on the richness of God's love and we believe and trust that you have been experiencing the different attributes of God's love. Today, to end this, we will be looking at the jealous love of God. When we hear the word jealousy, it kind of has a negative connotation to it. We sometimes feel bad about the way people feel jealous about somebody else's success or we feel saddened about the way people feel jealous within a relationship. We need to understand that the jealous love of God is not motivated by insecurity or an anxiety or frustration or self-centeredness or pride or any of that. It is important to understand what we mean by the jealous love of God. Reading from scripture from Exodus chapter 34, verse 14, ‘you must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a god who is jealous about his relationship with you.’ When we use the word jealous, we can use it to mean that we are envious of somebody who has something that we do not have. But it is not this jealous or it is not that God is jealous or envious about something that we have, notice in the verse that we read today that God is jealous when we give our devotion or our love to another apart from Him or that which rightly belongs to Him. In these verses above, in Exodus, we see the way that God is speaking of people worshiping other gods instead of worshiping Him. The understanding is that God is possessive of our worship and our service that belongs duly and rightly only to Him. So, one of the most vivid illustrations that we see of God's love, His jealousy and His wrath is when Moses descended Mount Sinai with the 10 commandments. When he comes down the mountain, he sees the people of Israel worshiping a golden calf, they were into idolatrous worship, they had forgotten the God who had bought them out of Egypt, they had forgotten the God who did the miracles in the land. Now, although these Israelites frequently displayed their spiritual infidelity, God spared them because He was merciful, even though He is a jealous God. We see that the jealousy of a holy God is the essence of His character. His jealousy is a righteous and loving demand of an exclusive faithfulness, He wants His people to be faithful to Him. Just like in a marriage, that you would see how the spouse is jealous for the love of their partner and this is a good kind of a jealousy and this is what we see because God wants to be glorified and wants to be given that undivided attention that His redeemed people can only give Him. God is jealous about His relationship with you and me and He passionately loves us and He does not want us to be destroyed, but wants us to live in complete fellowship with Him. So, when we know that God is jealous, we know that He is rightly jealous because He wants our worship, our praise, our honor, our adoration to be given to Him and nothing else. So, even as we live through life, let's look and love God for the fact that He's possessive of us, He loves us with a jealous love. Shall we pray together? Heavenly father, we thank you for your love, we thank you because you pursue us. Lord, we thank you because you want us to love you with an undivided devotion that is rightfully yours, that rightfully belongs to you. May we glorify your name by being completely faithful and devoted to you. Thank you that you are a God who is possessive of your relationship with us. We are so privileged that we fall in the boundaries of such a jealous love, thank you Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
