Welcome everyone! It's so important for us to consider the next generation and to consider investing in the lives of the next generation. Sometimes, when we see little children, we may think that they are not absorbing much but on the contrary, there is so much that they are receiving just by being around us and this is true not just in the family setup but also in any other setup and even in the church.
So today, let's talk about passing something on and in order for us to pass something on, we must be an example. We read the words of the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians chapter 11, verse 1, where he says, ‘Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.’ Christ lived an exemplary life that apostle Paul walked after he fashioned his life according to the life of Jesus. Here, he is inviting the younger leaders and the people whom he was working with to imitate him. Now this is a very bold invitation to imitate the life of Paul. And that also shows us that he was striving to be an example among the people. It is only then that we can call for others to imitate us. So, for us to pass on something, we first have to become an example and leaving a legacy is commonly what we hear about but we can also live a legacy. A legacy is not just something that will remain long after we're gone but while we're alive, we can continue the impact on the people who are connected to us, as we've been saying the next generation or the next line of leadership or young children, we are able to impact them as we're journeying through life. What are some of the areas in which we can pass on legacy? I'm just going to enlist some of them before us. In the spiritual sphere, we can help impact people with our faith, we can impact people with our passion, we can impact people with the knowledge and the depth in God's word, we can impact people in the depth of worship. As we go to great heights in all of these aspects, the people who are walking with us will be encouraged to go deeper than we have ever been before. So, in the spiritual sphere we can be an influence. We can be an influence as far as our character and our virtues are concerned. We can be an influence in terms of practical knowledge, the wisdom, the culture that we establish. We can be an influence by passing on material blessings to people, some sort of wealth and opportunities or we as leaders can also pass on the courage that we carry, the mindset, the resilience that we have can become the standard of the coming generation. So, there's so much that we can actually pass on but it will take for us to pray and ask the Lord and ask His grace to be conscious about these things and every day, we can leave behind a legacy, we can live out a legacy.
Let's pray together, Father, we thank you for our experiences. We thank you for the blessings and we thank you for the skills and the grace of God upon our lives. Help us to be intentional, to pass on whatever we have received, help us to invest it in the lives of other people around us. thank you fort he grace to do this, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
