by Ps Nancy Ramya
Hello everyone! It is wonderful that you and I are journeying with the Lord and there is so much to celebrate as far as His intervention in our lives is concerned. We have been talking about leaving behind a memorial- a memorial for the next generation. Today, we will be talking about us remembering and the next generation remembering the works of God. As we read Psalm chapter 78, verse 4, the scripture says, ‘We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord.’ This is what God wants us to do- to speak of Him to the next generation, to share all the wonders that we have experienced to the next generation. As we do this and sing of the praises of our God to the next generation, they get an idea of who this God is and how powerful He is and how He has seen their parents, their leaders, the previous generation through difficult circumstances and how He is able to do the same today in their lives. It is an act of investing faith in the next generation, to talk of the praises of God. Let’s be conscious to do this. If we don’t do this, what could be some consequences? We read this alarming situation in the lives of the children of Israel, in Judges chapter 2 and verse 10, the scripture says, ‘When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel.’ Right from the time of Abraham, through the time of Jacob, Moses, Joshua, so many miracles were performed by God. How could those miracles have been forgotten and yet in the book of Judges we read, right after the time of Joshua, scripture tells us there was a generation that didn’t know the work of God. It is really alarming to see something like this happen and how could something like this happen? We don’t fully know all the reasons why an entire generation didn’t know God but what we realize is that one of the things would have been not being able to pass on the testimonies, the truth about God and His attributes and His praises as we just saw in the book of Psalms. Even in the life of David, we see a very sad thing take place when his own son, Absalom goes against David. There was this disconnect between David and Absalom. We could talk about so many things that actually took place because of which Absalom was upset with David but the point that we want to bring us to is that we need the next generation in step with the Lord, as much as us or even more. That is going to take prayer, intentional effort and let’s be careful to do that and encourage the next generation in the Lord.
Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we see that you have placed a mandate upon us to lead the next generation in the ways of God. Help us that we will be careful to do this and let the coming generation and the generations know you deeply, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
