Welcome, everyone. As we are enjoying what God is doing in our lives, one of the things that God wants us to be conscious about is to pass on whatever we have received from Him to the next generation. So, we will talk about passing on legacy and specifically, legacy of faith.
As we read from 2 Timothy chapter 1 and verse 5, here is what the Scripture says, ‘when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.’ These are Paul's words to Timothy, where he is recalling the faith of his mother and grandmother and affirming to Timothy that there is something that is in Timothy which has been passed on through generations and that was faith. And it is so encouraging for us to note that our faith can be passed on through generations. And sometimes, when we think about leaving things behind or think about legacy, we only consider living behind a gift by will or living behind some material possession or may be even leaving behind some lasting effect and some form of a result but then spiritual treasures can be passed on and when we look at the way God works, God considers all generations. Even in the life of Abraham, God called him with a promise but then that promise was connected to his children and children's children. We see how He is called as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. God is doing a work in our generation but there is something that He wants us to leave behind for the next generation that they can run with and He doesn't want us to solely remain focused on just our lives and achieving our highs and walking into our blessings but He wants us to be conscious about the generations. In fact, even two we talk about the next generation, the next generation is present with us right now, observing us and walking with us every single day. We just have to be conscious that the next generation is with us. When we talk about legacy, sometimes we feel that it's only about the family, where the parents leave something behind for the children. But legacy can be of various kinds, leaving behind something useful, may be in the work world where we have we have come up with things that can bless the generations to come or even in the church community, where we are living in the word of God, we are moving toward the call of God on our lives but we are conscious about raising up leaders and raising up children in the Lord so that they can continue the work and they can also experience the glory of the Lord. So, let's be conscious about passing on a legacy of faith.
Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, it's so wonderful that we can be a blessing in the lives of others and that the spiritual highs that we have walked into, that we can somehow make that the experience of the next generation. Help us to be intentional, help us to be conscious to pass on the legacy of faith, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
