Holy Spirit (Daily Devotional)

by Ps Ashish Raichur

Greetings and once again thank you for the opportunity to come to you today and spend these few moments in the word of God and in prayer. This week, we are talking about biblical decision making, we are going to cover seven pillars that will help and guide us in making quality decision that glorify God, serve and bless people. Today, we will look at the second pillar that we must consider as we are about to make decisions which is listening to the Holy Spirit. The bible tells us in Romans chapter 8, verse 14, ‘For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.’ We can restate it like this, that children of God have the privilege of being led by the Holy Spirit. To be led means to be guided, directed, shown the way by the Holy Spirit. So, the Holy Spirit which is God Himself who dwells within us and one of the things He does, is He leads and guides us, directs our paths. In order for us to receive that, we must intentionally listen. Where does the Holy Spirit guide us? Primarily in our own spirits. The bible says in Romans chapter 8, verse 16, ‘the Spirit bear witness with our spirit.’ That means the Holy Spirit is speaking to our spirit, His directions, His guiding, His leadership, His communication comes to us in our spirit. As we are making decisions, we need to learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and what He is saying to us in our spirits. Let’s say, you have to make a decision, if you have the time, you are praying and at the same time, you are saying, what do I feel in my spirit, what is the Holy Spirit saying? We must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit. How does He speak? Sometimes, it could be through impressions/ feelings, that means it is not your own feeling, but an impression/ feeling that is put there by the Holy Spirit. He can give you a feeling of sense of peace. So, we may use the word impressions, sense of feeling. It is what you are getting in your spirit, feeling of peace or restlessness, discomfort, uneasy, that means He is saying, this is not right, don’t go for it. Sometimes, it is a clear word/ instruction tat comes. The Holy Spirit is prompting you going you a word or a scripture that give you that instruction that you need. So, the Holy Spirit communicate through impression, actual words, or pictures and dreams that He uses to communicate to us. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. So, a lot of information can be given it us in the spirit or He can give a revelation/ understanding, suddenly you begin to understand something and you say, ok now I see it and know what to do. That understand/ knowing has come to you in your spirit from the Holy Spirit. That is the second thing when you are about to make a decision. What am I getting in my spirit? Holy Spirit, show me what to do, a simple prayer and then listen. Sometimes, His witness comes immediately, sometimes, it may take some time because we need to quieten down to be able to listen and receive from Him, but we need to train ourselves to listen to the Holy Spirit. So, that is the second pillar for a believer to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying. As you are about to make decisions, depend on Him, He is in you to lead you and we must learn to listen to Him. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for the precious Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, bears witness in our spirit so we can listen to Him and He guides us, leads us, directs us and shows us the way. Thank you that we have this privilege, in Jesus’ name, Amen. ‘
