Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotion of All People's Church. We hope you're
having a good day. Today, even as we look into God's word, we're going to learn something and I'm sure
that God's word will strengthen us, God's word will give us faith, God's word will encourage us for
whatever needs there are today. We are looking this week at the response of God's people throughout
history and how they responded by saying, ‘here I am’. God called them and they responded, ‘here I am’
and in response to that ‘here I am’ there was something that God did, God promised and God brought
into their lives. So today, we look at Jacob. Genesis chapter 31, verses 11 to 13, this is what it says, ‘Then
the angel of the Lord spoke to me in a dream, saying, Jacob, and I said, here I am. And he said, lift your
eyes now and see, all the lands which leap on the flocks are streaked, speckled and gray spotted; For I
have seen all that Laban is doing to you. I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar and
where you made a vow to me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.’
Now, Jacob had run away from home because he feared the wrath of his brother Esau from whom he
had taken the birthright by cunningness. So, he had run away from home and he was staying with his
uncle Laban who had repeatedly deceived him. He had made him work for more than that duration
which he had promised him, what the wages that Jacob had asked for. And now God was doing
something. Jacob did something which was which might seem very illogical and foolish. He put these
rods from different kinds of trees and the trees names are mentioned as poplar and so on. He stripped
the barks of those trees, of those rods and he put them in front of the flocks. And when the flocks were
conceived, the little ones that were born were spotted and speckled and gray. Now this was a condition/
agreement between him and Laban that when he left the land that Laban would retain all the good
ones, the ones which are blemish less, the ones which were pure white and the others which were
speckled, gray, spotted and streaked, Jacob could take. Now what had happened was something
supernatural; even as he did this, the flock greatly increased and whatever the flock were given birth to
were actually streaked, grey and spotted, so that Jacob's flock increased so much more than Laban. Now
this is something that Jacob is recounting and he says, the Lord called me and I said ‘here I am’ and this
is what the Lord told me that something supernatural was happening was going to happen in my life.
Shall we pray? Father, we thank you Lord, even as we respond to your call and when we say ‘here I am
Lord’ wholeheartedly, we pray that even as we see that you are a God that nothing escapes your
attention, if there is injustice, if there are things that are done to us, things that are withheld from us,
you are the God who is a breakthrough, who does things supernaturally and brings justice and brings
what we do truly deserve into our lives. Today, we pray, may it be so according to your word. even as
you are a god of righteousness and justice, bring forth that even as we answer and say, ‘here I am’. We
thank you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
