Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. It is good to meet here so that we can look into the word, the word of God is a lamp to our feet and light to our path to direct us. Today, we are going to look at the scriptural response to our cry, Help, I’m afraid. It is okay to be a little anxious or nervous when we are about to face some big tasks like maybe a presentation or maybe even while crossing the road. It helps us to be alert and prepared while doing these tasks, it is good but if this fear or nervousness and if we are afraid and if it restricts us from doing the normal things, then it is not helpful. For example, if the fear is so irrational that we are unable to walk even, then we need to do something about it. If it cripples us rather than enabling us to do the things, then we know that it is not helpful. If it is creating doubt and anxiety that we are unable to pursue what God wants us to do, then again, this kind of fear is not healthy. We also see in scripture that fear could also be of a demonic source, or a demonic spirit trying to intimidate, influence, and oppress us and keep us from doing what God wants us to do and keep us from enjoying the life that God has given to us. When we read 2 Timothy chapter 1 and verses 6-7, this is what we see, ‘Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.’ The question is, if what we are experiencing is not from God, should we receive it, tolerate it, and suffer it? The bible is clear, God has not given us a spirit of fear. 1 John chapter 4 and verse 18, ‘There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.’ It says here that fear causes torment and it is not from God. We don’t need to be tolerant about this kind of fear rising up and causing us to shut down and not do the things that God has called us to do. It is time for us to reclaim our courage and walk in boldness and courage. God tells Joshua in Joshua chapter 1 and verse 9, ‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” When we are assured of the presence of God, then this presence of God casts out fear. The Lord says, be bold, strong, and courageous for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go, His presence casts out fear. The scripture that we read just now, 1 John chapter 4 and verse 18 says, perfect love casts out fear. When we are filled with the love of God, knowledge, experience, and the revelation of the love of God, then this casts out or repels fear. We know that God loves us, cares for us and when we know that God has our back, then that casts out fear. Romans chapter 10 and verse 17, ‘So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’ When we are strengthened in faith and fill ourselves with the word of God and hear the word of God, then faith in God’s word casts out fear. So, let’s reclaim our courage and dispel this fear and walk in confidence in God. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you that we have access to your presence and your word, Lord, you fill us with your love and we know that all this casts out fear. Even as we experience your love and fill ourselves with your word and experience your presence, I pray we will walk in boldness and courage and not be crippled by fear. We thank you, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
