Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to spend a few moments in God’s word and in prayer. This week, we will be talking about Ephesians chapter 6, where Paul writes about the armor of God. Let’s read Ephesians chapter 6, verses 14 to 18 and today, we will look at the helmet of salvation. ‘Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.’ We will begin this week talking about the helmet of salvation. The helmet of salvation is a vital piece of armor as an attack to the head could result in instant death. A helmet was vital for survival protecting the brain, the command station for the rest of the body. If the head was badly damaged, the rest of the armor will be of very little use. The assurance of our salvation is our impenetrable defense against the viles of the enemy. Jesus said, ‘do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be afraid of the one who can destroy both the sold and body in hell.’ The idea of this verse is that as we prepare for satan’s attack, we must grab that helmet of salvation and buckle it up tightly. Salvation is not limited to a one-time act of the past or even for a future hope. God’s salvation is an ongoing, eternal state that His children enjoy in the present. It is daily protection and deliverance from our sin nature and satan’s schemes. Because of the power of the cross, our enemy no longer has any hold on us. He knows that but he also knows that most of God’s children do not know how to put on the helmet of salvation. We must learn to keep our helmets buckled so that the fiery missiles do not lodge into our thoughts and set us on fire. Through the helmet of salvation, we can destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ. A few actions as a believer that we can take to keep this helmet fastened and functioning. One, renew our minds. Our mind is the battlefield. The outcome of those battles determines the course of our lives. Two, reject doubts that arise from circumstances. What we cannot fathom in our five senses, we tend to disregard it. God rewards our faith. Thirdly, remember that the victory is already accomplished. When we consider ourselves dead to sin but alive to God, we eliminate the opportunities that satan uses to entrap us. Let us buckle our helmet and be ready with this armor of God. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for your word and your exhortation. You have command us to put on the armor of God. Even as we out on the helmet of salvation, bring protection over our mind. I pray that we will be rooted and grounded in your word and our minds will be focused towards you and the things you have for us. We commit ourselves into your hands, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
