Hello everyone, one of the key ingredients for a healthy relationship is humility and today we will talk about humility. Let's begin by reading a scripture from Romans chapter 12 and verse 3. It says, "For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith." So, we are called to think soberly of ourselves. It also adds that one must not think of himself more highly than who he is. And so, this is actually a call for us to have the right self-awareness, when we are aware of who God has called us to be. There are many functions in the body of Christ and God calls each one of us differently. When we recognize what God has called us for, we will not be people of comparison and competition, but we will know that each one doing our function will help the body of Christ to thrive and prosper. So, we need to have the right awareness of what God has called us for, what are the gifts that He has blessed us with, what the grace of God upon our lives is and this is a good indicator of the direction in which God wants us to go. This self-awareness in any relationship is so very helpful because people carry their own call and their gifting and grace that you and I can honor what God is doing in another person's life when we are aware of ourselves in a healthy way. And beyond this, humility means submitting to God. The apostle James, he talks about this in chapter 4, where he says that one should submit themselves to God and one should trust God and as one submits themselves to God, it is God who will exalt them. So, exaltation comes and the grace of God increases upon our lives when we walk in humility and humility is something that also makes our relationships beautiful. We are obedient to God as He leads us and guides us and we're not proud when it comes to our interactions in our relationships and our decision making. Now, submission to God, just a quick note on that, there is a scripture in Micah chapter 6 and verse 8, that talks about yielding to God and to really walk with the Lord. It says that this is what God requires of us and that is to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. And so, God is expecting us to walk humbly with Him and we must also walk humbly with others. The apostle Paul called for us to walk in the Spirit and walking in the Spirit is not fulfilling the desires of the flesh. One of the desires of the flesh is pride, self-seeking, and selfish ambition, but these do not glorify God and these are also harmful in our relationship. So, let's put on humility which will strengthen our relationships, which will also strengthen our walk with the Lord. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, the way you gave us the example of Jesus, Jesus who humbled Himself and because of that, Lord, you gave Him a name above every other name. Help us, Lord, to walk in humility. Help us to rightly know about ourselves and others and to honor the relationships that you've blessed us with, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
