Health (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you for another opportunity to come to you and take a few moments in God’s word and pray together. This week, we are talking about wise investments. What are things that we could put our time, energies, focus and efforts into in order to reap good benefits, benefits both in this life and beyond? Yesterday, we talked about investing in the spiritual. Today, I want to bring our attention to investing into our own physical health. We read in 1 Timothy chapter 4, verse 10, ‘For bodily exercise profits a little’ (that means it has some benefits, not that it has no benefits). So, we need to invest in our own health. On one hand we believe, yes, God is our healer, we have been healed by the stripes of Jesus, the Holy Spirit in us gives life to our mortal body, God’s word is health and medicine to our whole body, we believe that. But we are also responsible for the taking care of our body. Look at it like this, it says in 1 Corinthians chapter 6, verse 20, ‘For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.’ God paid a price to get ownership of my body. He created my body and in addition to being creator, He became purchaser/ redeemer of my body. He paid a price for it. So, the price that Jesus paid on the cross was not just for spiritual things only but it was also for my body. Think about that, Christ died in order to redeem my body. If He paid such a price for my body which is temporal, we understand, how much more should I invest in taking care of my body? So, we need to take some time. I understand that many times, we neglect our body and say, hey, I don’t have time for it, we are busy with life and other things and so we don’t have time and we need to tell ourselves, the Lord Jesus paid a great price to purchase my body and so what price will I pay to take care of the body for the life that He has given me to live here one earth. I recognize the body is temporal and is going to grow old but while I live in this body, what can I invest to take care of my health and physical body. So, invest in it because if we have a good healthy body, there is a lot of good things we can do- we can serve God and people and do good things if we have a good health in our bodies. So, let’s invest in that. Let’s pray, Lord, we ask for wisdom, discipline and grace to take good care of our bodies which are your temple, which you paid a price for. Help us to be willing to pay a price to invest in our health, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
