Hello everyone, we’re talking about God’s holiness and the beauty of His holiness. It’s amazing how the knowledge or the revelation of this holiness can help us worship God with reverence, Hebrews chapter 12 talks about. Today, let’s take a couple of minutes to understand that we need to live holy. For us to be holy, we truly need this work to be initiated from God’s end and the scriptures tell us that God has promised to sanctify us. Let’s read from Exodus chapter 31, verse 13, it says, ‘Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.’ We have this assurance friends that God Himself sanctifies us. It is because He cleanses us and has made atonement for us through our Lord Jesus Christ, that we can live a sanctified life. So, our position in Christ is that He has sanctified us. Scriptures also tell us that we need to continually cleanse ourselves from sinful things and uncleanness. So, it is a positional reality and truth that we are sanctified in Christ and at the same time, we need to put in effort to live a sanctified life. It is something that we need to work out as well. How do we ensure that we are working together with God to move forward in this sanctification? A couple of things for us to remember, firstly, to walk free from sin. 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, verse 7, ‘For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.’ God has called us to holiness and not sin. Sin must be kept away. Now, how do we do this in our own strength? Well, the scriptures do reveal to us that the work of Jesus on the cross has broken the power of sin, that is the good news. That the power of sin is broken over the life of a believer and so we are able to live victorious over any form of sin. So, let’s be encouraged- we can live a holy life and Jesus has destroyed the power of sin over our lives. To continue to walk in holiness and sanctification, we also need to remember that we are now a new creation. We are in Christ Jesus, to base our identity on who we have become in Christ Jesus. This will enable us to keep walking pure in the Lord. We can also allow the work of the Holy Spirit and the word of God because both of these are cleansing work in the life of a believer. The more of the work of the Spirit in us and the more work of the word that we have, we see that we will walk pure before the Lord. Of course, to ensure that we consecrate our lives to the Lord and commit to godliness. As we do these things, we will live out that sanctified life that Jesus has died to give us. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we pray that we will walk holy, you’ve called us to be holy, you’ve called us out of all uncleanness and so, we pray that we will live a sanctified life which brings you glory, honor and helps us worship you with true reverence, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
