Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Jeyakumar Isaiah
Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. We're so glad that you could be here today even as we study God's word together and particularly, we've been studying about growing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit which is available for every believer, which is necessary for every believer and today we're looking at one very ignored and neglected aspect of growing in the Spirit and which is this aspect of rest. So, we look at the scriptures, Isaiah chapter 11 and verse 2, it says, ‘the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him.’ It talks about the different facets of the Holy Spirit - wisdom, counsel, understanding and so on. Numbers chapter 11, when it talks about the Holy Spirit coming down on the 70 elders and even those who are not there, the Holy Spirit rested on them in their tents and they began to prophesy. That word ‘rest’ it talks about being quiet, it describes the whole aspect of settling down, to dwell. When the Holy Spirit rests upon us, to move us in the expression that He wants to express through us, we need to rest as well, we need to be calm which is the opposite of being agitated or anxious. Many times, when it comes to ministering in the gifts of the Spirit, we are nervous, we are apprehensive, we are anxious and there is a kind of a pressure and we're thinking, okay, now I got to pray and I got to share something, what is God saying? Is God speaking at all? And all these thoughts go through our minds. Well, we need to just calm down and rest. So, our spirit cannot be turbulent and agitated. We will miss out on what the Spirit of God is speaking. So, we need to be at rest and this is one very important aspect for the believer. The scripture talks about how in quietness and rest shall be your confidence and so we come to that place of resting in peace. We come to that place of not being anxious and we come to that place of receiving in our spirit with all clarity. So, what can we do to be in that place of rest? We trust God, we rest in Him, we are confident in Him. It's not about our reputation, it's about speaking faithfully, it's about ministering faithfully. So, what if God has not given a word? We just rest, we don't have to make up anything, we don't have to manufacture anything or share anything that God has not spoken. So, what if God does not move at that particular time? That could be a very real fear. Well, just rest, what if God can move? What if God does move and give that breakthrough and deliverance and healing and so on? So, rest! Our identity should not be in whether we make things happen or in the magnitude or significance of that word that we share. Our confidence, our identity is in the fact that we are sons and daughters of the most high God. We rest in that. Our identity is rooted and grounded in who we are in Christ Jesus. So, today as we pray, just want to remind us rest in Him even as the Spirit of God rests in us. Let's pray, Father, we thank you, as you rest over us, as you fill us as you did in the past, may we not be agitated, may we not be anxious, may we not put ourselves under pressure to perform, but rest in who we are and rest in the fact that you are faithful and you will speak and that we don't have to worry about anything or be anxious about anything, we thank you, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
