Greetings and it's our joy to be able to come to you today and spend these few moments with you in God's word and prayer. This week, we're touching on the subject of overcoming depression and sharing a few insights from the word of God which you and I can practice to keep ourselves strong emotionally and overcome those feelings of being depressed and low and being cast down. One important insight that we learned from Psalm chapter 42, verses 4 through 5, if we read what the psalmist says, he says, ‘why thou cast down O my soul? Hope thou in God, for He is the health of your countenance and your God.’ So, as the psalmist is recognizing himself feeling cast down, feeling low, feeling depressed, the way he encourages himself is by calling himself to hope in God. To hope is to have a positive mindset, a positive outlook, to be positive and he says hope in God or be God positive or be positive because of God. Hope in God, have hope because of God because God is the health of my countenance and my God, He's the strength of my life, He's the health of my countenance, He is the health of my life and He's my God. So, hope in God, in every situation, whatever is triggering that feeling of being low, maybe it's a financial situation and a different circumstance you're facing, a problem, a mountain, a valley you're going through, a grief, a loss, whatever it is; hope in God, see God as bigger than that situation, see God as the one who has the answer to the problem, see God as the one who has the solution to the problem, see God as intervening in that circumstance of your life and making all things new, making all things well. Hope in God, that's the first step. The Bible tells us in Hebrews chapter 6, verse 19 that this hope that we have, it's the anchor of our soul. So, you can imagine, in a stormy sea when the ship gets thrown here and there, anchor, helps it stabilize and stay strong and that's what hope does for us. When everything seems to be falling apart, shaking, hope anchors our soul; hope in God. Let's pray, Father, we ask that even when we are feeling down and low, we will still have hope because of you and in you, that you can turn things around, you can resolve our problem, you can bring us out into a better place, we hope in you, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
