Hello and welcome back to Living Supernaturally. We live supernaturally by the word of God and by the Spirit of our Lord and we take this time, as part of our daily devotion to meditate on God’s word. Today, we are looking at some instructions given by Paul and it seems like it is the ‘to-do’ list of the believer and we see this in Romans chapter 12. We are looking at Romans chapter 12, verse 13 which says, ‘distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.’ In other words, he is saying, take care of the needs of the believers and be given to hospitality/ be hospitable. In other words, he is saying, be generous and hospitable. James chapter 2, verses 15 ad 16, this is what we read, ‘If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?’ How is it beneficial if you just say be warm, be filled and you don’t take care of their bodily needs, if you see someone who is destitute of food or clothing? What is it that is required? Well, Hebrews chapter 13 and verse 16 says the same things, it says, ‘do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.’ Our generosity and our act of kindness, God is well pleased with. It says here in Hebrews chapter 13, it is talking about in the verses prior to that, to bring our sacrifice of praise to God. Just like the Old Testament priests, they brought the sacrifice to God, the fruit of our lips is like sacrifice to God, when we give thanks and praise Him, they are the sacrifices we bring before Him. In the same line of thought, the writer of Hebrews says, don’t forget to do good and do not forget to share. That is also a sacrifice that you bring before God and with such sacrifices, just like giving of thanks and praises, God is very well pleased. The second thing that we see is to be hospitable, to be given to hospitality. Hospitality and being hospitable, it doesn’t always happen when things are convenient. When we have to entertain people and be hospitable, maybe we are in a hurry, there are things that are lacking at home but the bible says be hospitable, be given to hospitality. 1 Peter chapter 4, verse 9 says, ‘Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.’ Which means that it is possible to be hospitable with all the complaints and grumbling- why have they come at such a moment and time, I am busy, I have so many things and responsibilities and yet at this time, these people have shown up, I need to hospitable and take care of their needs etc. The bible says, be hospitable to one another without grumbling. Hebrews chapter 13, verse 2, ‘Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.’ Here is a ‘to-do’ list for today. Distributing to the needs of the saints and given to hospitality. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for these practical instructions we see in your word- to be generous and hospitable. Today, as we go through the day, when there are opportunities/ needs, we pray that you will enable us to be generous and hospitable. May we do this joyfully without grumbling, In Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
