Shalom, it's a privilege to join you once again as we look into God's word and meditate on it this morning. We are looking at a series of how we can be a blessing, we are looking at how we could be a good steward with what God has given us. The scripture for today shows us that each of us have received a gift, maybe it's a certain gift or a certain grace, it could probably be a talent or even a spiritual endowing. 1 Peter chapter 4, verse 10 reads ‘as each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.’ We read that each of us having received a gift that is given to us by God comes only because of the grace of God and nothing to do with our own merits or anything that we have done. As believers in Christ, we have been freely given and entrusted with multiple gifts and abilities from God. This may include our time, our talents, our resources, our opportunities, our spiritual gifts, our relationships and so on. Whatever has been given to us by God, it is not to be kept for ourselves but as this verse highlights, it is to be used to minister to one another. These gifts are not meant to be hoarded and held like how we would put water in a bucket but we are to be like pipes that are to be channels and stewards of the gift of God, of passing on what God has so graciously given to us. The Greek word for gift reveals that these are spiritual gifts or reflections of the grace of God that has been given to us and these graces that God gives has to be managed and to be used well and how do we do this? We do this by being a good steward. A steward is someone who manages and oversees that which belongs to somebody else. The steward is not the owner of the asset but is a responsible administrator of the owner's property. As we read in 1 Corinthians chapter 4, verse 7 it says, ‘what do you have that you did not receive?’ This is a verse that simply reminds us that every one of us have something that God has given and we all have something good that God has put into our lives. So, whatever we have received from God, we are to be responsible with it and ensure that we are good stewards of the gifts that God has given us. Stewardship is the proper care and use of what God has put into our lives and while we may often think of these gifts as ours, the truth is that all that we have belongs to God. So, as a believer, you and I, are responsible to use every gift that we have from God to serve others faithfully as a good steward. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, teach us to be good stewards of the grace and gift that you have given to us. May we be like good channels of your grace and blessing each one who comes through in our lives, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
