Excellence (Daily Devotional)

Welcome everyone, thank you once again for joining in. We continue to learn about serving well and today I want to focus on excellence. We all understand excellence when it comes to the workplace, there, we have a demand on the quality, the timeliness with which we do our work, submit the things that have been given to us. So, we understand excellence when it comes to the workplace, however, when it comes to serving God now, of course, even serving at the workplace is serving God, but what I'm trying to say is that excellence is important in any form of service that we bring unto God because we serve a God of excellence. We see that Jesus was given the most excellent name, Jesus, His service as the Heavenly high priest, it's an excellent ministry that God has given Jesus, we serve an excellent God. Even as we look at creation around us, we could very well look at the iris, the fact that each person's iris is so different, and every thumbprint is different from the other person's thumbprint. So, God is a God of detail, He's a God of excellence, He's a God of order and that is something that He expects from us, and we can grow in this, we can grow in excellence and learn to serve God with excellence in any given ministry that we have. I'm reminded of the example of David, as a young boy, taking care of his father’s sheep, he would have been singing a song or two to honor the Lord and to praise the Lord. But you see him in his lifetime, you read about him becoming a skillful musician. We come across the many Psalms that David wrote and later on in his life, we also see that he had the passion for excellence that he established a tabernacle of worship in the city of David where he had the best musicians, he had the best vocalists, he had the best arrangement for extravagant worship unto the Lord. So, he had that attitude of excellence right from his younger days. And it went on throughout his lifetime and this really inspires us. It doesn't matter which stage of our life we're in, whatever God has given us, maybe it's something as simple as doing a power point in church, but we can do our best to do that power point really well. It could be a song that we're called to sing, we can do our best to sing that song really well as worship unto the Lord. It could be to arrange the church hall; we can do the very best in that. So, excellence has to do with doing our highest and doing our best unto the Lord. Once again, I just want to draw attention to the life of David, at one point in his life, in second Samuel chapter 24, he wanted to purchase a piece of land to offer unto the Lord and a certain king who owned it, said, okay, David, don't worry, I'll give you a discount, you take it at a lower price. But David with his Spirit of excellence says, I don't want to give God something that costs me nothing, but I want to give God the best, I want to give God my all. And that's the Spirit of excellence that we see in David. And so today friends, whatever we are doing for God's kingdom, whichever way we're serving Him, just do your best. God takes notice of that, and God is greatly honored by excellence in our tasks. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that your spirit is a spirit of excellence and that you will strengthen each one of us. Give us the wisdom and increase that grace on our lives that whatever we are doing that we would not give it our second best, but we would give it our very best, let it be a blessing for your kingdom in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
