Hello everyone, it is great to be back together with you. We are learning from the book of Esther. Today, we will consider what Esther and the people did to see the deliverance of God. Let’s read from Esther chapter 4, verse 16, ‘Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”’ Esther is getting ready to do something very courageous and that is to enter the presence of the king without an invitation and this would mean that she could be killed by the king. But we know what happened- the king extended his favor and Esther was safe. But before she could do something as courageous as this, she had asked for the people to pray. We said that the word ‘God’ is not mentioned in the book of Esther but we know that these people put their faith in God. They fasted; we know that fasting is connected to prayer and seeking God and this is exactly what they did. Esther called for a fast in the city of Susa, not only did she ask for her people to fast but she and her attendants also fasted before she could do what she did. This shows us the dependence of God’s people on Him and that is when the deliverance came. Today, we know that Jesus has called us to prayer and fasting. For us to see the purposes of God fulfilled in our lives, the promises of God fulfilled in our lives, we need to give place to prayer and fasting. This is a way in which we seek God, give our focus and attention to God, express our faith towards God and just the way God brought deliverance for the Jewish people and turned their situation around, our situations can also be turned around. God can do the impossible when we seek Him through prayer and fasting and this is something we learn from the people in the book of Esther. Let’s go ahead and pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that we are called by your name and Jesus, you have taught us to pray in your name and to seek after you in your name. We know that even as we pray, you will do things in our life that are so amazing. Give us that Spirit of grace and supplication. Holy Spirit, help us to spend time in your presence and pray. Thank you for teaching us this truth, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
