Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to come to you today and spend a few minutes in God’s word and prayer. This week, we have been on the theme of humility, step lower-get higher, step down, God lifts you up. I want to point us to this passage in Philippians chapter 2, which many of us are familiar with, where the apostle Paul says from verse 5 onwards, ‘Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.’ In other words, he is saying take on the same attitude that Christ had. Then he goes through the whole sequence of how Christ stepped lower and God, the Father lifted him up and put Him in a place and gave Him a name that is higher than every other name. So, he is saying, follow that, have the same attitude, that is what God will do for you if you follow the same example. Let’s highlight a few things from the whole process that Jesus went through so we can imitate that. He says here in Philippians chapter 2, verse 6, ‘who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.’ Let this attitude be in you, have the same attitude and what is he saying? He was God, highest position possible but He didn’t hold on to it, like a robber/ thief holding on to it but He became a bondservant, He went down to the lowest level; think about that. Instead of holding on to His positions, God gave it up and He went down to the lowest possible position, a bondservant. What is the attitude he is saying we must have? An attitude where I don’t hold on to my position, I am so and so and therefore I deserve these things, I’m entitled to all of this because of my position, don’t do that, that is not like a Christ like attitude. A Christ like attitude is this, I live separate from my position, I have a position but the way I conduct myself is separate from that. Though He was God, He walked as a servant, though you have a position, walk as somebody separate from that, simple, as a common man, live like that and that is the mind of Christ and that positions us to get lifted up by God. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for the example set for us by Jesus. Give us the grace and the same mind/ attitude that Christ had, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
