Greetings and welcome once again to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity you are giving us to spend time in God’s word and in few moments in prayer as well. This week, we are talking from the book of Revelation. Today, we will talk about ‘do not be afraid.’ Revelation chapter 1, verses 17 and 18, ‘When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!’ Earlier in his life, John had spent three and a half years with Jesus as a disciple in training. We might expect that John would recognize Jesus, run up to Him and embrace Him, but something is clearly different about Jesus. The glorious presentation of the Son of man so overwhelms John that he falls at Jesus’s feet as though dead. But then, he hears the familiar words of His Lord and master, do not be afraid. The loving Savior comforts and assures John. Jesus gives John an elaborate description of Himself. What a way to build up John’s confidence and that of the church’. Jesus said, ‘I am the first and the last, the living one, who was dead but alive forever’. There is more, Jesus holds the keys of death and Hades so they have no power over Him or His followers. The emotion of fear can lead us in many different directions. While some fears are completely rational, there are time fear can arise out of no logic or reason attached to it. Whether your fear is rational or irrational, fear is more than just an emotion. Fear is also an enemy. The enemy attacks with the goal of overpowering us because when it happens it can stop you on your tracks, paralyze you and keep you from moving forward. Everyone is afraid sometimes by something or someone. We live in a world that offers plenty of opportunities that bring fear and sometimes, we maybe rather creative to allow fear/ fearful thoughts to come into our lives. Maybe, this is why it is one of the most repeated commands in the bible, ‘do not be afraid.’ Trust in God- that is the starting point. In trusting God, we pray to Him, believe in His word and obey His commands. Scripture abounds with reasons why we shouldn’t be afraid based on our trust in the Lord. In His grace, God has given us spiritual armor to wage a successful war. We have the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench every fiery darts of the wicked one. Jesus then commands John to write to the seven churches that are represented in the lampstands. To us today, those churches represent the whole church of Christ. Despite the church’ strengths and weaknesses, Jesus is God. The powers of darkness will do their best to destroy the church but they will fail because Jeus is the living God. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you once again for your powerful word. We thank you that you are alive and you hold the keys of death and hell, that you overthrow every plan of the enemy, that you destroyed his power. We pray that we will walk in this identity to know you and trust in you. We rebuke every fear or every doubt that maybe coming into our hearts or spirit, for you haven’t gives us a spirit of fear but of power, love and sound mind, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
