Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. We're so glad that you could tune in so that we can study the word of God together and we pray that it'll be a blessing to you. We are studying the gifts of the Spirit and we've been going through the list of gifts that are mentioned in 1 Corinthians chapter 12. Today, we are looking at a couple of gifts which are listed as the different kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues and these are gifts that are available for every believer. Now these gifts are an expression or manifestation of the Holy Spirit, these gifts are there for the body of Christ which means for every believer, to build up one another to and for the benefit of one another. So, a person who is moving in the gifts is not to call unwanted attention to oneself. These gifts are not for one's popularity or fame or to elevate a man above everyone else, to show how special someone else is. No! That is not the reason why these gifts are there, these are the expressions of the Holy Spirit and these are so that the fellow believer could be edified. If there are needs, if there are challenges, the gifts of the Spirit which are the expression of the Holy Spirit is to take care of that need, that God wants to step in and take care. In fact, the Lord Jesus said that you will be filled with the Spirit. He's telling the disciples to wait in Jerusalem to be filled with the Spirit so that you can be witnesses with power, this is an expression of the power of God where we can witness with the power of the Holy Spirit, power of the gifts of the Spirit. So, today we are looking at the gift of tongues and the interpretation of tongues. So, what is gift of tongues? Gift of tongues is the ability to speak in a language which could be earthly, which could be heavenly. We see that it could be a heavenly language which means 1 Corinthians chapter 13 says if I speak in the tongues of men or if I speak in the tongues of angels and if I do not have love then it is nothing, it profits me nothing. We know that the gift of tongues could be an earthly language which everyone knows or someone speaks or it could be a heavenly language. When we look at Acts chapter 2, we see this phenomenon happening over and over again, where people were filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke in tongues or they prayed in tongues. They prayed in a language that they had not known, they had not studied the alphabet or the grammar or anything. It was just given and given to them and they spoke out. Now what does this do? This edifies; the Bible says that he who speaks in a tongue edifies himself. We see this again in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, that he who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, so there's a building up that happens. It also says that he who speaks in a tongue speaks to God and understanding is unfruitful. Now when we pray in tongues, we don't understand what we are praying and Paul says that's okay because our understanding is unfruitful in the sense, we don't understand, we don't know the meaning of what we are speaking and declaring but it is the gift of God where we are being edified, where we are speaking the mysteries of God and so many wonderful things happen. We can pray and intercede for others as we pray in tongues. Now there is also the gift of interpretation of tongues which we can pray for, which brings the meaning or the understanding of what we are praying for. So, today, even as we pray, if you have not received the gift of tongues just pray and say, Lord, I receive it, I believe it's for me and begin to take that step of faith and speak out those words the Holy Spirit is putting in your heart. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you for these wonderful gifts of praying in tongues and interpretation of tongues. Lord, we pray, even as we're asking you Lord, you are the one who baptizes us Jesus, you are the one who baptized us with the Holy Spirit. I pray today for those who are waiting, those who are asking that you would fill them with your Holy Spirit and Lord we pray and ask, let the gift of tongues be released, let the interpretation of tongues be released and I just pray that they would be able to take that step of faith and speak out in unknown tongues, as you the Holy Spirit gives the utterance. We thank you for this possibility, we thank you that you will lead us on that path, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
