Greetings and wishing you a wonderful, blessed, victorious, a God filled 2024. Have a wonderful new year, may this year be a year where you experience more of God personally, where you get to know Him even more intimately and you get to see Him work powerfully in your life and through your life. Each year, as we get ready for the new year, we try to listen to God and say God, what is that one word or message that you want us to bring to the people so that can encourage them and give them a sense of direction. Of course, we know that this is not the only word God is speaking because the entire bible is what we live by day in and day out, everyday of the year we live by the entirety of scripture. We know the Holy Spirit is speaking and guiding each of us in very personal ways, so we are very aware of that. In all of this we say God what is that one word we should bring to the church community and so this week, we are going to consider that word of the Lord. The word of the Lord for 2024 is simply this that God would tell us, conquer through faith. The passages that we want to consider is in Hebrews chapter 11, verses 30, 33 and 34, the writer of Hebrews says, ‘By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.’ Verse 33, ‘who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.’ That is the scripture that I want to emphasize for 2024, that God is saying, conquer through faith and take your Jericho’s, subdue your adversaries. Like we see here, it says by faith, the walls of Jericho fell down. What does this represent for us? For the people of God at that time, in Joshua chapter 5 and 6, God said that city I’m giving to you but that city was fortified, the walls of Jericho was keeping them from taking that city. God said we are going to deal with this by faith. God said I want you to do something, He gave them instructions, He said, you walk around the walls and on the seventh day, the walls will come down. They obeyed in faith, they acted in faith and through faith, they took that city which otherwise would have been very difficult to conquer. So, you take your Jericho’s and we subdue our adversaries. It says here in verse 33, through faith, they subdued kingdoms, kings were overpowered through faith. We are not fighting a militant, physical battle but in a spiritual battle against our adversary the devil who is trying to hinder us, stop us and working thorough all kinds of situations in our lives and God is saying, through faith, you conquer and subdue your adversaries. So, that is the word of the Lord- conquer through faith, take territory that is yours through faith, subdue the adversary and his activities in your life through faith. The bible tells us in 1 John chapter 5, verse 4, ‘For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.’ We are going to look at this even more in the coming week. Let’s pray together, Father, we ask that each one of us will conquer through faith, will take our Jericho’s and subdue our adversaries through faith. Help us to do this, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
