Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Paul Emmanuel
Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to spend a few moments in God’s word and in prayer. This week, we have been talking about the book of Colossians and wrapping up today by talking about giving our best in all we do. Colossians chapter 3, verse 23, ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.’ In this verse, Paul instructs believers to work diligently and wholeheartedly, not just for human approval but as if they were working for the Lord. This means approaching work with dedication, honesty, integrity, focusing on pleasing God and honoring His name. The word ‘whatever’ includes all contexts. This implies the ideas of enthusiasm and passion. Demonstrating a good work attitude makes a tremendous difference in one’s personal life and the influence they are able to make on others. Paul’s words remind us that regardless of our station in life, God is the one who is truly, ultimately judging us in all that we do. So, all our service is really for Him. From the most mistreated slave to the highest paid leader, every person is called to work for God’s honor. We do not work for men or simply for earthly goals but to glorify our Heavenly Father and Master. Living for the Lord’s honor is relevant in one’s personal life - immediate family and work context. It is good to have human authority over us and for that authority to be good, but ultimately our authority is not any man or woman but the Lord. We are working for the Lord. Don’t just always think about the employer or boss and the group to which you’re accountable which is important but look above them. Is Jesus who you are working for? You’re serving the Lord. So, ultimately, we are not only working for a degree, grade or a paycheck but an inheritance from Jesus Himself. Whatever job to which God calls us, He wants us to serve Him with all our heart. Our work may be very menial, sometimes we may dislike our job, still, God wants us to serve heartedly in that job. He wants us to throw ourselves in to our work. Serving the Lord at our job gives us dignity to what we do. We may work in an office where everyone cuts corners, take long coffee breaks and breaks the standards. The Christian doesn’t operate on those same standards. Our boss is in heaven; therefore, we put our hearts to work. Colossians chapter 3, verse 23 echoes this sentiment, urging us to work for the Lord and not for human approval. It is a mindset shift that transforms mundane takes into menial acts of worship. Jesus, the ultimate example of giving ones best served with compassion, healed people who were sick and taught with authority. His life exemplified wholehearted dedication and service. May we do all that we do with all our hearts knowing that we serve the Lord.

Let us pray, Father, we thank you once again for your word teaching us simple yet profound truths. We pray that no matter where you have placed us in our lives, in our workplaces, enable us to give our best knowing that you are the God who rewards us. We thank you once again for this week, thank you for your Holy Spirit that will empower us to walk in all that we have talked about, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
